I read the thread on the R3M and 75 lenses. Is the rangefinder accurate enough for a 135 either 3.4 or 4.0 (I do have, and use, an external viewfinder). Thanks

Good queston. I was a bit surprised that the R3M didn't have 135mm framelines, given its high viewfinder magnification. My guess is that the higher magnification would compensate for the shorter rangefinder base length (compared to M6 x0.72) as long as the rangefinder is well adjusted but maybe it could get a bit dodgy in worst case situations, lke close portraits at full aperture. Just aguess.

Why no 135mm framelines? Either the rangefinder isn't up to it, or it's not such a popular focal length for rf cameras these days and they didn't want to clutter the viewfinder with something not used much. I used to be irritated by the 75mm framelines on the M6 standard x0.72 as it was a focal length that I had no intention of using. Many years later I have changed my mind on that, but I prefer the R3M for that lens.

My R3a (same as the m) may have a 1:1 finder but it still has a short effective base length compared to a .72 or .91 Leica rf. I think Cosina knew what they were doing when they only gave it the 90mm frames.

The Voigtlander Bessa 35mm camera series (all of them) don't have a long enough effective rangefinder baselength to focus a 135/3.5 WIDE OPEN and CLOSE UP.

On the other hand, close it to f/8 close up,
or even f/3.5 at or near infinity, and the depth of field will carry you.

I shoot my Canon Seronar 135 on my Bessa R, which has an even lower rangefinder baselength. At f8 it works just fine.
