Expensive rangefinders ? Well you are talking about a special brand here, I guess. This brand has proven (handmade !!!) quality and there is a good chance that your camera will still function the same in 100 years. Also the lenses that mount to this cameras are usually at the top end of quality. Some of the best photographers, especially in journalism, used (and some still use) this cameras and lenses. There must be something about it. So why not, spend a big amount of money into something that you will have the rest of your life and that will give you a lot of joy in that time ?
You are exited about your new toy, that makes your life easier in some ways. You will have your results way faster. Maybe you take much more photos and at the end it makes you a better photographer, because you are able to see the result just after taking the picture. All OK. But still, the M4 must be very good camera, I wish I had one. I am wondering why you did not decide to get a M8 or RD-1, if you already own the glass. What is "bad" on a RF, except it makes less sense, compared to SLR camera, to use them for tele- and macro- photographie?
Your work sounds pretty interesting to me btw. If I would be you, I would be happy that I found my way to DSLR cameras, BUT still keep the M4 "in my bag", loaded with a BW film for special situations or for the fun to take some photos on the weekend.
I can imagine that you will use your M4 again, or you will regret it one day, when it is sold. Think about it twice.
