Rangefinders for Landscape photography

I recently took my Bessa R2A with 50/2 and 35/2.5 on a backpacking trip in Colorado and it worked great. The most important camera accessory for landscape shooting is a tripod, and with a 35mm RF, you can use a much smaller tripod than most any other camera (digi P&S aside). I took a 1.9 lb SLIK tripod and it worked great. I would not have carried a tripod big enough for an SLR...it's just too heavy. Now, if I was shooting landscapes in more accessible areas, I'd still prefer to use an SLR (if I had some decent lenses) or best of all, a view camera.

Good idea or "better not"? Any experience or sample images to share?

If you can bring a good landscape scenery to me (scant to none where I live), I'll be happy to provide you with a 6x9 velvia slide from my ancient Bessa RF 😀

Seriously, MF folders equipped with RF's are worth the price + of a good CLA. They are very backpackable, has no battery or electronics to malfunction, and some of them has excellent lenses (search for ones with Tessar, Solinar, or Heliar lenses).

Go to the 120 folders sub-forum here in RFF, there's lots of samples and knowledge.

I've done a lot of walking in the desert for landscapes with my dslr and I've gone out with my R3A and been able to replicate the same sort of shot in most cases.
There are a few cases, involving objects in the near foreground, where the RF is at a disadvantage. Otherwise, I'm happy with a RF camera for landscapes.
The filter use concern is valid, but I tend not to use filters anyway.
