Rant About The Gallery

Probably not worth a real rant, I can understand the point of the objection, but the other side is that people post when they have time, and hopefully good stuff.

As I, and am sure many, appreciate any thoughtful comments, and I enjoy looking at the work of others, I try to scroll through and note any photos to which I wish to add, hopefully, a meaningful comment, or a simple congratulatory note.

I do not think that five photos in a day is too much, but I see what you mean about timing, though I have not figured it out to any advantage ;-).

It will never be a perfect set up, to me, I would really have to see the print in hand, possibly well framed. It is what it is.

Now I am going back to figure out exactly what Keith is doing to make viewing more convenient. ;-)

Regards, John

Edit -- Thanks Keith, now I know what those button are. ;-) Does make it more convenient to take a broader look at the daily possibles.

yeah, it's frustrating but timing is everything. You can watch the gallery for a week and you'll find certain days like Sunday night and Monday morning seem to attract alot of uploads. The middle of the week, early in the morning seems a good time if you want to be seen. At least that's what I've noticed.

Todd

B****r! I'd noticed that too, but now everyone knows ... thanks a lot Todd :D

The last time I uploaded a few photos, they were already gone from the main page before the screen even had time to refresh, and nobody ever really looked at them.

One of the best features of this forum, in my opinion, was the random gallery selections on the main page, and I really, really miss it. It was perfect, because it meant that ANY photo could pop up at ANY time, and no photo was ever lost to history. Old pictures often got comments. Now, once a photo leaves the main page, the views drop of precipitously, and when it leaves the main gallery page, the views disappear completely. I would love it if the random feature were restored.

Thank you.

5 fotos a day is fine. What some object to is 5 fotos loaded simulteaneuosly because it bumps everyone else off the page.

Among the thousands of RFF members, I wonder who takes family photos at the beach? Food for thought.

Maybe you could be more discrete about it?

Wow, came after that. What a great idea! If you wanted to see latest you could click on of the Recent Photos options, otherwise each visit would shuffle the deck. Wonder if we could petition for getting this back?

I feel EXTREMELY frustrated, as a RFF member, that we do not have a slide show facility at least one dedicated to the weekly images.

I find it extremely unfair to judge images from our mini thumbnails, and cannot by any way take the time to open every image.

Now, be it clear cut stated I feel confident that when the opportunity will appear, Stephen will do something here.

Cheers,
Ruben

I said right from the get go that I wasn't referring to anyone specifically. I was just generalizing. In fact, you and your work hadn't even crossed my mind.

Thanks for clarifying.
I get your point, and I will try to remember to upload one image.

maybe post in Critique/Salon with a link tim images elsewhere? Critique on forums is very hit and miss and so few people are prepared to think about the image and post honest feedback. It does happen, however....

OTOH, if someone loads several images which may be related in some way, you get a different feel for what they are doing, a context.

I suppose I am as guilty as others in that as I look at the Thumbs, certain images are stronger than others as thumbs, and I very well may overlook an image that is very good, just not as a thumb.

Keith filled some of us in on changing the number of images displayed, so that you are not simply looking at the last five uploaded.

I did hit a time when my images stayed in the front of the line for a bit longer than usual, and yes, the views went up.

Not as often as the Drum and For Rent from four years ago which keep coming around. ;-)
