My cousin has her fathers Leica I. I had no idea she had this and only now have leared of it. My uncle is the one who started me in photography many moons ago. Anyway, the serial number is 355035. According to Camera Quest there were only 650 made(47/48). Is this in fact rare? Does anyone know what this could be worth? Thanks for any info you could share. This is a special camera cause I remember watching my uncle use it in the 60's when I was a little boy. It was the spark that started me on a lifelong passion. Thanks again.

I'm going by the site Stephen Gandy has put up and he lists it here as a Leica I with the years 1947/1948.

All of my books list that serial number as a Leica Standard.

This is interesting for sure. As to the rarity ...... is it? I don't know if I can trust the Gandy site as to the 650 units produced.

The Standard is a fairly high priced model due to fewer being made as compared to others but there were more than 650 made. That number is the total units made for that year.

The Standard was more or less in production from 1932- 1948
