rd1 and 2 lens combo

Slightly off topic question though.

I'm really relatively new to shooting with rangefinders and currently I have only the Ultron 28/2. I'm leaning towards a wider focal length like the Super-Wide Heliar 15/4.5. The only thing stopping me is the speed of the Ultron. But then again, most of the time, I find myself shooting at F4 and above.

Will I really miss out on the F2 if I trade the Ultron for a Heliar?

if i were to have only one lens for my rd1 and given the choice you offer, i would stick with the 28. it's a better 'all round' lens...even though i love the 15 on the rd1.

The cv 15 is great. The only piece of gear I own that I haven't thought seriously about selling - including the R-D1. That said what makes it great is that it has a very dramatic perspective, and like Joe said, most people can't use that for 100% of what they shoot. 15/28 should be a great setup for you, just wait. Or you could find a cheap LTM version. Sometimes they go for around $200 without a finder.

back to thinking about this whole 2 lens kit...except that i am now thinking it needs to remain a 3 lens kit but with a switch of one lens.

i'm thinking that instead of a 50 i need to get another 15. i miss that wide angle and the abilty to point and shoot in a crowded area or on the street.

so, a kit with 2 bodies, and 3 lenses, a 28, the 40 and a 15.
translates to a 24/42/60 set up on full frame.

For a long time, my RD1 was outfitted with a Tri-Elmar 28-35-50. If the light is good, it works well on the RD1. I sold the tri-elmar to fund other things....

Lately, the CV 21mm and 50mm Summarit seem to spend good amount of time on the RD1.

I'd miss having a fast lens...
But that 28 and that 40 are made to go together...
So it's a tough decision...:bang:
Unless the parameters open up to a fourth lens

down the road, i still hope to get another 50/1.1.
but at the moment that seems way off.

plus, i am determined to master that 40 sonnar...i think it has so much potential on the rd1.

Yes, I think the 40 is a superb lens, and it's one of my most frequently used lenses. And because it shares the same barrel as the CV 28/3.5, I am always very tempted to get one of those again for a really sweet super light/compact daytime rig.

add the 50/2.5 and you have 3 look-a-like lenses.

Forgot about the 50 being like that, but with a 40 in the stable, it wouldn't appeal to me. (Curious why you'd keep your limited funds tied up in the 50?). Now if there were a slowish smallish 75 with the same filter size, that'd be magic!

been thinking the same thing.
a 50 translates to a 75 on rd1 and i like the fov...a 75 becomes a 114 or so.
