seems like a fair number of the epson rd1 cameras have been/are for sale lately...i sold mine and bought into the fuji x system...image quality and auto focus finally won out for me...i'm wondering if the other rd1 sellers are also looking at the fuji system as well?

just my idle curiosity at work here...
 
Noticed the same thing. I however sold mine a year or more ago, to get into the Leica M experience. But I remember well the distinctive handling, a camera like no other. I prefer the X-E1 as a do more or less everything tool, and for it´s absolutely stunning files, but I do prefer the handling and the feel of the R-D1.
 
It's unique, I find it hard to believe that an updated model hasn't been announced.
Perhaps it's just as well but I'm not about to let my minter go for now.
I've nearly purchased a second but hauled myself back from the edge-I just enjoy using it that much.
 
I've done the same as you Joe and got into Fuji. I've got the X100 and used that alongside the RD1 and it was fine. Then having got a good deal on the Xpro I thought it would match the X100 better. Most my m-mount lenses are now sold to members here and I'm left with just the CV15 which works well as my wide option on the Xpro. My RD hasn't sold yet and I'll miss it when it goes. If it doesn't I'll keep it to use with the 15 too. The RDs are pretty unique and it stopped me going for the M8 and I'm glad it did.

i believe epson are making a slide-in 36MP chip set for existing RD1 bodies out there. yep, i'm sure i read that some where...
 
I'm settled in with my RD-1. It is a rangefinder. I have several old Leica lenses. My favorite is my beloved Summar that is in excellent condition. My other new fave is a Industar 22. I'm not coveting any of the current offerings, as none are rangefinders and I'm not in need of any additional automation. I just really like most everything about the Epson and the way it's 6 mp renders exceptionally up to 1600 iso. If the prices come WAY down I would like to try full frame with a used M9. But my hope is Epson will offer full frame and keep the rest of the chassis as is. If I need speed and automation I have a used D200 I bought for $240.00 for grab and go. The Epson has taught me to slow down and look closer at what I photograph. I still forget sometimes to cock the shutter but that helps to keep me honest.
 
I have an X100 and RD1 and several other digital and film cameras. The X100 is the most recent technologically. The RD1 delivers sufficient resolution for what I do with my photography and is a pleasure to use. It also has something special about its rendering. It is probably the best ever digital implementation of a film camera. I do still get GAS, but really have no desire for any of the current digital offereings. My GAS is sated by buying film or second/third generation digital for very little money that I can usually get back once (if) my curiosity is satisfied or hang on to without any significant financial penalty. I don't need anything else and I am theoretically done, but GAS is difficult. However, I am content.

Sold off the Nikon D300 .... too big

and the RD-1 for an OM-D and an X-Pro 1.

The OM-D does just fine for the level of speed focusing that I need.

Got rid of the RD-1 never really grabbed me, and that is due to that RF, not any specifics about the digital side. In fact, it made some of my favorite images.

At the end of the day, I did miss the RF shooting method every so often, so I got a Canon G17 III, and that will satisfy my needs for old school shooting.

So far I'm doing OK with my R-D1 and X100. It's somewhat irrational, I know, but I enjoy the manual focus RF shooting experience. I've been lusting after several cameras for a while now -- OM-D, X-Pro1, RX1, 5D/6D -- but I suspect I'll end up with an M8.2 or M9 first. Given the every-decreasing market price and ever-slowing market for R-D1 bodies, I don't know if I'll end up selling it, rather than keeping it on hand for my daughters to use (dreaming -- they'll want the latest/greatest techno-wonders).

I sold my R-D1s a few weeks ago...... because I had a X-Pro1 purchased through a sale rep. at a deep discount back in April.... I was originally planning to keep the R-D1s, but I realized the R-D1s was in my bag being neglected...... Now I sometimes missed the RF & the shutter cocking. :rolleyes:
 
It's worth mentioning that you can have autofocus AND Leica M capability with the same basic camera. I'm talking, of course, about the wonderful Ricoh GXR, which really has unequaled capability and versatility and should be selling far better than it is in North America...TW

A nice thought but more a pipe dream than reality surely?
Got anything of substance regarding this rather general statement as that's something many,many folks would be interested in.
