Really odd bokeh on 24

Tonight's 24 had very odd bokeh. In one shot in particular, the effect was very pronounced. All I can figure is maybe the shot was using a very tight hard matte on the matte box, but even then, I feel like I would have seen this before.

Any ideas?

If I knew what lens, that certainly might go some ways to helping to explain this very strange bokeh. 24 is a Panavision show, so I assume it is one Panavision lens or another, but that hardly helps...

...except that Pana lenses are of extremely high quality, and this sort of aberration (and I can only describe this as an aberration) isn't what I'd expect from their glass.

Has anyone ever seen this sort of pseudo-rectangular pointsource bloom?

Maybe an internal shading / baffle / paint on of one of the lens elements to cut off stray light ?
