Did Zeiss (or anyone for that matter make a rear lens cap for the 50mm f/1.5 or f/2 Sonnar lenses?
I need one for my 50mm f/1.5 Sonnar but can't seem to find one.
Rear caps for lenses that use the outer bayonet mount are around but the internal mount seems to a different story.
Thanks!

Tony,
Zeiss did make them; they are aluminum and a little larger in diameter than the rear portion of the lens. I'll post a picture so you know what to look for. Congrats on acguiring the 105/2.5 Nikkor!!!

I have a Zeiss plastic lense bubble for my 50/1.5 Sonnar that I bought from pacificrimcamera.com. It was the only one I've ever come across. Check their site - they have lots of accessoroes.

For the pre-WWII 5cm Sonnars, Zeiss Ikon made black plastic/Bakelite caps.

You could try one for a jupiter-8 or -3 in kiev mount. At a russian seller. If they have one, it will be cheap.

D2,
Thanks for the info! Was I bidding against you on the 105mm Nikkor?

The base of the film container also makes a lens cap for the Tessar on the Contaflex IV. There is obviously a cottage industry in the uses of film containers. PacRim have no rear caps currently available, and the front cap for the 50/1.5 on their web site has been sold.

A generic 40.5mm front lens cap should work - I bought a few on eBay and actually prefer them to the metal Zeiss caps.

Did you get the 10.5cm in 'C'ontax mount? It is a great lens. I have it in S-Mount and LTM. I do not have it for the Contax.
I have used the Russian rear lens caps on the Nikkor 5cm F1.4's. It should be fine on the Sonnar. My Sonnar almost never leaves the S2 that I modified for it.

I don't remember if I bid or if I was just watching the lens. You probably have had a chance to use it by now; how do you like it?

I have a collection of original Zeiss caps -- sitting in a drawer. On everything I take out of the house I use generic plastic snap caps in 40.5 mm. The Zeiss caps do not stay put dependably. Genuine Zeiss rear caps are nice to have, though.RObert Budding said:A generic 40.5mm front lens cap should work - I bought a few on eBay and actually prefer them to the metal Zeiss caps.
