Recommendations For a Film Scanner Around $250

Hi All,

I'm looking for a dedicated film/slide scanner for around $250. Obviously it'd be used, which is fine, my only other requirements are that it be USB , Mac compatible, and non flatbed. I will be using it to scan my archive of family photos and for my B&W film work in which I'd like to be able to print digitally up to 11x14 if possible.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

About the only choice is the Konica-Minolta DualScan IV, which is a really great value. Results rival the Nikon scanners but the build quality isn't as good -- but more than adequate. It is noisy (sounding) and B&W scans show a lot of grain (same with the Nikons). Prices hover around $300 but if you are patient you can find one for less.

The OEM software is mediocre, I use VueScan with mine.
