Regarding the latest closed thread

At the moment I’m listening to Bob Dylan; and I generally agree with him, well the early stuff anyway………if that’s OK.

Sorry if I’ve got the wrong thread

"Masters of war" ... one of the greatest Dylan songs ever...

And as I explained in another thread I like this forum, apart from it's censorship, the Pinochet thread was not vulgar, nor did it move into the wrong direction. Personally I am a left winger, not communist but certainly left wing, I do understand that I musn't try to draw blood from under rightwing principles, but we must all be able to enter a discussion forum which will perhaps learn from each other, and each others views.

If I am offended by someone's position on Leicas then I think it's my problem and I should move on.
If someone's political views are offensive to me, then I think perhaps they should move on to a political forum where the members have come looking for that sort of discussion.

I'm here to learn on matters realated to photography. THAT learning is what suffers when the climate is charged with strongly held opinions...not related to photography.

Don't visit the off topic forum, don't open the threads, commit yourself only to threads that have to do with photography.... which are usually noted by the thread header...

Can't see it. There are many off topic disucssions I would like to read and participate in. I'm not going to avoid parts of this forum because members from either side of the political spectrum want to duke it out.

In the end, it's up to Jorge to decide what kind of place he wants to run, and for you and I to decide if it is a place we wish to frequent.

Not saying you should, but you can always skip the things you're not interested in. And "duking it out" is hardly a representative of expressing ones feelings and/or beliefs.

Maybe it was locked because it went off topic since both gareth and Mangus decided it was apropriate to turn it into an America bashing thread...

Cod fish? Is that acceptable?
I dont even like turkey very much...

Pedro.. I have to say as a Canadian, (and I'm not joking here, do an internet search) that codfish and the fishery is a very very highly charged issue in Canada's Maritime provinces as they watch the fishery deteriorate on Georges Bank and Grand Banks.

Just so you know.

I also understand the idea in your comment.

"It would have" therefore we ..... etc. is the death of any democratic system (including freedom of speech). I do hope you see that.

Democracy on the internet, that’s novel
:)

As long as politics/religion isn't allowed to infiltrate the entire board, I don't see a problem with such discussions in the off topic area.
OTOH: I left one board I had quite enjoyed after it essentially became a "born again" photo and right wing opinion board. Nearly all the photos were religious in nature, most of the sigs were bible quotes or screeds in praise of whatever "good works" America was doing etc.

???

Criticism is different than "bashing" but in the eye of the non-believer or one-eyed it can easily be mistaken as such

While I have no simpaty for the late Pinochet (nor I have for anyone that overthrows a democratically elected government and replaces it with a dictatorship), I also undertand Kim position if he thought that politics threads may be a little too of topic here.

At the end of the day it is up to Jorge to decide.
