Repaint Recommendation?

If you just want the covers painted, and you can get them off yourself, I can recommend a gunsmith local to me, Galyen Custom Coatings. I had him paint my Leica IIIc for a total of $40 in cash. He has access to reverse electrolysis and will use a light sandblast to prepare the surface for paint. B-9 sent me a small pack of B-929 me strip the chrome / nickel off my covers too. Having done it once, I would recommend having someone else do it unless you like dealing with nasty chemicals.

This one was done in KG Gun Kote satin black. He can also do Duracoat (which the Starkies use) as well as Cerakote. I had to wait about a week for painting and curing. He could probably also fill engravings, but I did those at home with a Markal Paintstik.

I am thinking about buying a beat-up camera body, getting it repainted, put on new covers, and a CLA/restoration.

Any recommendations who does a good repaint job in the US?

In what order do you do repaint/cover/CLA?

Thanks!

If not in the US is okay Lumiere Camera in Tokyo is a good option. I did what you are talking about this year, found a user M4 and had Lumiere paint it and switch levers to M3 levers.

I used to think of having my gunsmith do the same for me but.... the small parts are what makes it stand out. The 'smith can paint paint the and bottom covers but all the small parts & lettering is what it makes stand out.

We have a seller here who is seller repainted cameras. The pictures look good. I'm sorely temped. Has anyone bought from him?

It's true, I agree about the small parts. I think for a IIIc it makes sense to do because all of the painted IIIc's I've seen still have chrome hardware, knobs, levers, etc. I don't think this would be right for every camera.
