Cool article about a broken down M4 brought back to life. Check out the video too.

An old worn out looking camera with new insides...beautiful
Getting to use a camera again that you personally wore out...now there's a Leica story that impresses me...

There is no mention of how much the repair did cost. Any idea ?

I think that Leica Norway did it for free?

I reckon a lot of good repairers could fix up that M4, and I doubt replacing every part would be necessary unless the M4 is like Oliver Wendell Holmes' one-hoss shay. A broken shutter is the least of the problems an older M can have; cracked or separated prisms are the worst.

Very cool story. Not sure how the dude scored a free repair (I'm just assuming it was) but having a bit of online-viral publicity of this sort is almost priceless for any company.

The best camera is one that still works!
That man's obvious joy at having his camera back in his hands is a delight!
Nice story.

His comment when loading the camera was more or less, Ooooh, haven't done this in 12 years. Yet he didn't seem at all rusty. Makes me want an BP M4, as opposed to an M4-2, on the grounds of the brassing alone. The camera couldn't have been more beautiful if you tried. Lovely story, the glee on Pål's face said it all.
The band, Kaizer's Orchestra, involved the audience in the picture, urging them to raise their hands and cheer. Nice picture.

The fun stuff is in Audestad's norwegian blog post which started it all
Among the things he did to the camera: saw that a fellow photographer was having a camera malfunction, and slid his own M4 across 12 meters of stone floor, so that his pal could continue taking pictures. Says it slided "gracefully"
Then there was the day when he woke up and could not find his M4... a day of anguish and paranoia... finally he had to eat something, and there it was sitting in his fridge ;-)
Thanks to the OP for the heads-up!

Wonder if they can do the same for my M9, when it wears out (assuming I live that long...)
