It's such an outrage that I want to be angry, but it's healthier to simply laugh. Look, I don't think that Kinderman knocked the vulcanite off the camera. The buyer did it when he removed the mount, and then he sent the problem to Kinderman before deciding to back out of the deal.

Given how absurd this entire episode is, I think it would be appropriate is for the OP and this guy, Mr. Canada-X to appear on one of those TV court shows--you know Judge Judy? Maybe she is still on the air; she was when I left the States 15 years ago. Then in addition to the OP getting most of his money back we could be witness to Judge Judy dressing down Mr. Canada-X. I guess I'm being small but I really wish I could find out the identity of Mr. X.

I will take a guess he tried a home repair or sent it out.
Now repair failed and he wants money back.

Consult an attorney. A partial refund may indicate you acknowledge full responsibility and then he can legally press for the rest and win in small claims. This is more sticky than you think possibly by taking some unilateral action.

The camera was damaged in his possession whether he or his agent did it, so now some reduced refund is in order.

I would say sell as is and then refund that amount to him. Or it is his as is. his choice. Another $35 shipping due you before it ships. Postal Money order.

Perhaps it is not even the same camera.

I could be mistaken, but I would guess if you look at OP's old posts (through his profile), you will find the thread where Uff comments on another thread where I believe the "mystery canadian member" posted about a stuck shutter and thinking about "attempting to repair" it himself.

he got that camera for $615.00 and he seriously expected it NOT to need a servicing???? At $615.00 it was a bargain. Kindermann probably quoted it at $400 for full service and return to factory settings. That means for $1000 the guy ends up with a practically new M4-2. He was a dope to send it back to you.

Wow you are right. I would have bought that in a second. Uff you sound like a stand up guy and i'm sorry your m4-2 is now damaged. Hope it all works out, I just got screwed a month ago on an online transaction, paypal is very buyer friendly (i was scammed on a lens that the buyer damaged, then sent back to me after 2.5 weeks in his possession). Lesson learned for me.

Damn...I remember seeing that ad a couple days too late! I was pissed to miss it then; and this is even worse. I would have and could have bought it when I saw the ad. C'est la vie. Good on you uffda_x! I hope future deals go better for you.

That's the problem with the really good deals on RFF...you have to be hanging around at the right time. And then you have to have the loot on hand. I usually only have one of those go way my way at a time.
