Rewinding film : Leica IIIF

I recall a post concerning rewinding the film on the Leica IIIF. We were trying to decide if it was necessary to press the shutter release button before moving the rewind arrow lever from A to R.

Here is a copy of the Leica Manual for the IIIF, and it specifically tells us, at step 1, to not only press the shutter release button prior, but that we must HOLD IT DOWN while moving the lever from A to R.

Prior, we discussed whether or not to release the shutter. I find in the manual, that you must also HOLD THE SHUTTER RELEASE DOWN as well. Just thought I would pass it on to the other gentlemen or someone new to the forum. I find your comment an insult. You must be young. As a result, I choose to leave this forum and make no more posts.

Anthony, This isn't the first time that somebody chastises somebody for asking a question that's been asked before... You just have to roll with the punches...As they say in "The Godfather," it ain't personal... or in The Bible: "Let Not Your Heart be Troubled..."

Attached is the relevant page from the IIIf instructions. However, the Leica Guide (Focal Press), 40th edition, 1967, has nothing about pressing the release while moving the lever. It should not be possible, at the end of a roll, to fire the shutter anyway. One could do that, of course, when rewinding a partly exposed roll.

I enjoyed the rehash as my IIIf only arrived this morning and it took me an hour to get film in it. I finally understood what was meant by trimming and "eureka" all was well. Come 15:30 and I shot the roll and thought "Ah rewinding"

I love it when threads pop up just as you need them as this one did. I pushed the shutter button turned the lever from A to R and the shutter button stayed down till I had rewound the film. None of this is rocket science once you've done it but before it can be a mighty puzzle.

I confess to seacrhing for how to remove the film spool this morning to discover it is simple briute force. The poor sap who had asked this question on another forum was pilloried for his dumbness but I thank him for it because he really helped me.

And yes the second roll went in perfectly.

I have found two different manuals for the IIIf online. One says to hold down the shutter button, the other makes no mention of it. I think the manual calling for holding down the shutter release is older and refers to the IIIf BD, while the other appears to be later and for the IIIf RD. The RD shutter is different from the BD (and earlier) shutter, so maybe there's something to it.
