RF BOOK-Project

I'm in... and I'm also in support the blurb sample 2. The camera and other technical information can be listed in a general way, or simply mentioned that the photos in the book were all made with rangefinder cameras such as Leicas, Contax, Fujis, Mamiyas and the like. We want to strike with the image...

I have a couple of shots I'd like to submit... but I'll probably will need an editor, a new scan of the image (following Richard's procedure) and some orientation as to how to come up with that kind of text in PS. I'm barely proficient, which means I haven't made it beyond USM, levels, dodging and burning tools, cloning and... that's it!

But I'm in! Did I take spot #17?

One day? how about one half of a day. This post may run longer than any other, 3 pages already!
Richard, I made a sample (rough) of the back cover idea just to see how it would look, you can find it here at my photoblog: http://apeture.my-expressions.com/index.html
Feel free to use it for a sample if you like, of course the final would be images from everyones cameras and the image should
be larger I think. Just a sample to see if we are on the same page :)

Richard,

I kinda like blurb #2. Like what you said, it makes you focus more on the photos themselves.

For the technical details, can we make a photo index at the back of the book and we put all the technical details in those pages. So people will get to know what kind of cameras we use.

Any other ideas?

Max

modsoul, so far 2 people are pro-technical info per page and 2 people pro-technical info only at the back... maybe...a POLL?? ;)

Model releases:

To cover your asses - since this is a publication where the photographs generate some sort of revenue (for Lulu.com at a minimum) - you will be required to have a model release for any photos where people can be clearly identified.

So - either submit photos of non-people scenes (or where can't clearly make anyone out) - or make sure that you have model releases.

Thanks.
Richard

By the way Todd - your draft of the back-cover is wonderful!!

I also like the idea about using our 'coffee-and-camera'photos if all contributors can come up with one within the next few weeks :)

Everyone - Todd's first back cover draft is posted at: http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/covers

And another 'decision':

The back cover of the book will consist of a collage of photos of our favorite(?) camera. If you want to use one with a cup of coffee consider it our own internal joke ;)

I have created a folder for these images here: http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/back_cover_photos

Email your photo to me at aperture (at) gmail.com and I will add them to the folder.

One per photographer = 25 photos. Snap to it!! :D

Also - see latest status at: http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/project_status

You know what? At this rate that we are going I would not be surprised that RFF is going to be a 'Magnum' for the amateur RF photographers! :)

I'm trying to not plan for upcoming collaboration books such as "Streets through the Rangefinder" and the inevitable..."Cameras and Coffee" ;) yet...let's get this one under our belt first... :)

I'm in also!

As for the technical info, I like the idea of a index at the back of the book with a thumbnail for the image, and the technical details in text form. An alternative would be to have the descriptive text for the photograph in one font, and the technical details lower on the page in a smaller font.

I've got a coffee and camera photo. Should I mail you the high res file, or do you want smaller previews at this time. And for high res, you don't need large I assume, since it will be a small image comparatively. What size do you estimate the final individual photo will be, and I'll size appropriately.

sfaust - you are IN (and taking spot #18).

7 more spots to go before we close down the sign-up!!

sfaust to answer your questions about image sizes:

1) Images for the back-cover (i.e. a camera OR camera and coffee) - they will end up being very small images so email any size really and I am very confident that in our PS guru Todd shrinks them down to the 'right' size. :)

Todd - feel free to crop these back cover images in any way if you need them to be 'symmectrical' in any way. We can/will all review the draft anyway :)

2) The final images (two per photographer) that will go into the book will have to be about 250-300 DPI.
I'm still waiting on answer on final size which is dependent on book size. Should have that by tomorrow....

As always email all stuff to aperture (at) gmail.com
