RF BOOK-Project

I have been away for some time as y'all may know. Can anyone give me an update about the project? I'm eager to see something in print by now. :)
The status is unknown. Richard has disappeared and has not answered any emails and we all deeply hope nothing terrible has happened to him.

There is no way we're going to have this book out in time for Christmas.

I'd suggest we wait at least until January to hear from Richard, and if we don't, we could pick up what we have, get the last ten photos, and proceed with a 2005 winter publication time.

Gene

I agree. Its time to move on. Lets either pick some alternates, add a couple more images from existing photographers, or just print with what we have!

Whats really holding this up, and what can we do to get it back on track?

I also have tried to contact Rich (a while back) re; the back cover and my pics, to no avail. I hope nothing has happened to him.
Is Rich the only one able to access his pbase acount or did he include any of yall? Without that, everything on that site is unaccessable to us.
I would be all for moving on, sad to say, without Rich but him not being included would kinda suck since he was the "driving force" on this venture.

Todd

I agree also that it would be great to keep Rich involved. Has anyone heard from him at all? I also hope things are ok...

I've been seeing Rich here sometimes very late at night. Hope he's fine.

Max

Well Remy Richard has been out of circulation because he is sick, although he posted in a thread yesterday.

There have been various posts and maybe even emails or PM's to him but to be honest, I don't know what's happening, if anything.

I think many of us would like to see the project to fruition but we are willing to wait...

honestly, without rich we need a new 'leader' to organize us and keep things moving along.
i would love to volunteer but reality sets in and i am in the dark about most of this stuff.
i'm not even sure what we have access to.
i think said he has 20 photos or 20 photographer's work done, i assume that means ready to 'go to press'.
gene also wrote the forward so i assume he has access to that.(doh)
todd has some stuff re the covers, is there more needed?

what else do we need? 5 more shooters and their work?
go with 20 for now?

this was supposed to a fun project and i think we need to keep that in mind.

richard, if you read this please contact one of us to at least tell us you're ok or that you can't stand us anymore...something...you are still an important part of our community and we miss...i miss you and your input, regardless of the book project.

joe

Richard has really put much effort and lead us very well. Hope all the things O.K. I think we don't mind the delay of the project.

I second backalley's words, I'd really like to know something about Richard. Like many of us here I consider him a good friend.

As I already said, hope everything is ok...

Oscar

I was initially impatient about this project and suggested that the missing photos be aquired from among the 20 photographers who have already submitted two. Richard is the reason this project exists at all. He is the spiritual and de facto leader of this initiative, and I am willing to wait until all the pieces fall into place as initially planned. It seems as though both Richard and a few photographers on this project need a bit more time. Since a printing by Christmas is not a possibility anymore, let's just wait for those photographers and Richard to pull it off (with God speed).

Best wishes to ALL this Thanksgiving!

I agree that we should wait until at least january for richard. Do we know whose photos are missing though? Lets gently nudge them along and keep the ball rolling though.

Afaik, this is the last update on the rffbook status we got from Richard.

1) THE COVER
Cover #10 won the vote and Nick is finishing up the final printeable
version of it. Thanks Nick!

Things left to complete:
(As always I MAY have received the information from you but it got
lost in emails - if so I apologize and simply remind me with the
information/photo as soon as possible). Thanks!

2) FULL NAME AND COUNTRY
I still don't have confirmed full name and country (how you want it to
appear in the book) from:

1) Todd Hanz
2) ZeissZan

Please get back to me on this as soon as possible.

[And damn - another, smaller quake right now, unusual]

3) CAMERA PHOTOS
I need a 300dpi, 6x4 proportions, 1.5-2 inch on the longest side photo
(1 or 2) of your range finder camera(s) from the following people:

1) Todd Hanz
2) ZeissFan
3) DigitalOx (I could have sworn I had your photo...)

4) BIO
See here for the already posted bios that I have at this point for
ideas how to write
your own: http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/image/33847381

I need BIO's from the following FIVE people:
1) Rich Silfver (oopss...)
2) Todd Hanz
3) Wayne Scott
4) ZeissFan
5) AndColor

5) TWO PHOTOS FOR THE BOOK + TEXTS

I need TWO photos for the book + complete Text (incl tech info).

See examples here: http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/photos_rf (texts
are posted in the comments section under each photo if you want to see
for ideas how to write your own).

I need the following people to complete the submission of TWO photos and TEXT:

1) Rich Silfver (oopss...)
2) The jazzguy
3) Digitalox (I just need FILM information per photo)
4) Todd Hanz
5) Wayne Scott
6) ZeissFan
7) AndColor (I just need FILM information per photo)

So as you can see a lot of progress from the last status email - the
lists are much shorter :)

The missing camera photos ARE holding up the back cover design though
so PLEASE try to have them to me as soon as possible.

That's at least the last one I have, we should find now which one of those to-do tasks are now completed, mainly regarding members' photos, info, etc.

My opinion is to wait for Richard to be back. As you said it Frank, I think he's the real spirit after all this and indeed without him this would have never happened. But we can still keep things going on and try to have some more things ready for when he's back.

Oscar

Edit: Correcting my sloppy English :(

I totally agree Oscar.

Here's what we can do while we're waiting to hear from Richard:

1. If you are one of the five photographers not shown on Richard's RFF book site, you can email your photo, commentary on the photo, full name and country, and bio to me so I can finish the interior layout.

2. If you have missing info, please do likewise and I'll add it to your existing layout pages.

Send them to:

cdnphoto AT gmail.com

I am one of the culprits, I had sent my part but I guess it didn't get to the site/pbase page??? I have everything at work so I will try ang go in Sat. or Sun. and resend them to you Gene.

Thanks for the "re-nudge",
Todd ;)

Rich has been posting on photo.net - just yesterday he posted a great set of photos made with the Elmarit 90.

Does anyone know if he is going to come back?

He has posted here a little too guys in the past couple weeks, lets not get crazy. Something is up that hopefully will work itself out.

If things don't come around we have a plan. I copied this from Gene's post above and we should follow this path.

Hi all.

Well just a minute ago when I came to the homepage there was a thread name "15 mins to go". It was started by Rich, last posted by Rich. "Cool, Rich is back" I thought. I clicked on thread and got an error "Invalid Link". Then I refreshed the homepage, and the thread was mysteriously gone.

Can our moderators can shed some light on this?

I assume Richard deleted the thread when he realized that another RFF member was the current high bidder, and subsiquent winner of the auction he was linking too. I saw the post too, and I am glad that my dogs were going crazy outside and I had to step away with 42 seconds to go because another one of us won the auction.
