It's true. The last few weeks I'd been reading all the Nikon D70 posts & reviews, and getting ready to somehow justify spending $1200+ on a D70 system. For quite a while now, my Nikon SLR gear (an F2 & FE2 + lots of glass) has spent all its time in the case while I just grabbed the P&S Sony Cybershot. And then, I finally got around to running some film through the 2 Canon QL-17's I picked up a few months ago, and wow, it totally hit me that here was the difference between making a photograph and just taking snapshots. And, how soon would it be that a $1200 D70 would go the way that my 5 year old, $900 3 megapixel Sony Digital with the Zeiss Lens recently went - for $50 on eBay "for parts or repair only" ?

So, how did it help my marriage (aside from not spending $1200 on camera gear)? Well, for a long, long time now my wife has complained that we never print any pictures of the kids. They're all on the computer. My wife really likes to keep scrapbooks and photo albums of the kids (we have 6), and let's face it, as many photos as you can take with a digital, how easy is it really to sit down and print out 15 or 20 inkjet prints? That can take hours! So now, in this last week alone, I've shot and processed 4 rolls of film, and my wife is thrilled that she has over 120 prints to add to her scrapbooks & albums! And, the best of the lot I've scanned into Photoshop and made 4 or 5 really nice enlargements.

So you see, I now have no more need for a D70, and I have a happier wife. What can be better?

...well, another rangefinder or 2 couldn't hurt. Any R2A's for sale?

Regards,

Michael

very good, Michael! my RFs have had the same impact on me.. my D70 has only been used a handful of times since I started collecting RF gear.. it's still nice to have, but I often find myself thinking of selling it

Yes, I have the same feelings about my D100 as well. Now, I only use it for professional printed matter. For my personal pictures I use my Bessa's L and R and my Nikon F80. It is a good thing that you can share the lenses digital and classic.
It is so much fun to have to wait for a few days to see your results, while photographing digitals takes away this magic thrill.

Have fun!

Funny story... It just comes to show that we're not really that unique. I've spent my share of hours wandering the web and reading up on digital gear, only to dig my heels in film stuff.

Thank goodness, in my case, my wife just thinks I'm harmlessly weird. 🙂

Like Brett, I have an old faithfull D70 and am very happy with it. I use it a lot for other peoples stuff and when there is a real need to send some photo's quickly over this new fangled internet malarky (never catch on you know).

But the old girl that gets the most use by an order of magnitude is the Leica RF.
