RFF Hats

UIf it is a baseball hat I may pass on it as I have too many baseball style hats. If it is a bucket style hat (or fisherman's hat), well I will want one. After all, I should not have to turn my cap on backwards just because I may be using a flash on occasion.

good question, hoot.. I suggest we go with the L.L. Bean Moose River hat since I was about to buy one, anyway

I agree, it is a very handsome hat. Where are you going to put the logo, though? And, more importantly, is it something the ladies in the forum would wear too -- I suppose it is.

Oooh, I could just see a Tilley hat with the RFF logo!

No connection, other than being a proud owner of two of 'em.

I just ordered another REI explorer hat. The first one lasted 12 years, so I figured this one might last as long as it's owner - LOL. I like the floppy brim type, makes it easy to shoot verticles without removing the hat.

Dude... with your location, you should be lovin' a Tilley hat, hemp no less!

Foam & mesh? Yuck! Maybe for a farmer in Central Illinois....

HEY! I'm *from* Central Illinois - raised in the Peoria/Pekin area, and I *love* foam and mesh baseball caps. Dude, I wore them before I was bald. I wore them when it was NOT HIP to know what Bemis Bag, Caterpillar Tractor, or Libbey Foods were. Sniff. I think I'm offended.

Anyway, I still proudly sport my well-worn Community Coffee baseball cap, but I also wear a Borsalino when the cause be just. So there.

Best Regards,

Bill "Redneck Illinois Farmer" Mattocks

Bill,
I still miss my "MF" ball cap.
(and NO, that's not what MF stands for)
It was for Massey Furguson tractors, ya'll.
😀

I loved the floppy wide-brim "boonie" hat that I wore in the field when I was in the Army. Great for sun and rain both, much more practical than the standard issue patrol cap (roughly baseball-style). You could also secure the sides in the up position with the chin strap and have a decent pass at a cowboy or Aussie hat 🙂.

<sigh> Those were the days.... Still have it even though woodland camoflage doesn't coordinate with much of anything, so I bought an olive-drab civilian Woolrich lookalike for hiking.

I'm with you Bill! you know i miss my old black and yellow CAT hat, and my old DEERE one. Plenty of farms around me boyo (in fact my entire town smells a bit right now...), the new foam and mesh hats just don't seem to fit right either...

those big tilley hats are the sort that i always pictured mid 50's people wearing on the cloud forrest part of their all inclusive resort trips to Costa Rica, you know, the kind of hat that makes them look like an adventurer to their other friends as they provide their insightful cultural comparisson on the two countries... 😀

sorry to any and all mid fifties people who's practicality has taken over for their fashion senses

chris :wearing a cool hat smiley:

ps. my dad wears one of them hats and i tease him about it all the time, no harm meant.

Hmmm... what about a nice kangol? Goes well with the rangefinder. 😉

Doug K,
The REI hat is basically an improved boonie. It comes in grey, olive (OD?), or khakie, with a thin foam liner on top as flotation if in goes in the water. The liner pocket is also a good place to stash cash or a credit card if going "in dark alleys" - 😛
All cotton and very comfortable, for us mid-fifties fat guys who never did give a damn for GQ
