RFF Leica Serial numbers

i see this is still going on strong🙂
but
haven't you noticed, that the real big guys, who own really multiple m bodies, haven't posted anything ? not even a comment?

Let's say i find who's one below and who's one above, in serial no, on this thread.
Then what?
I'm afraid i still don't understand the motivation behind this thread
Pictures, and showing off a bit with what you have that is perfectly fine
... but an open database? with location and all?

As to what is the chance that an M was stolen that is displayed here... Well, unless it's a digital M, it probably has tens of years of lifetime and long use.
Since i own a camera, which is about 11 years, i had one bag stolen and one burglary in my home. First case, 1 camera gone. Second case, four cameras gone.
That's five per 11 years, now calculate the risk for a camera that is say, 25 years old.
Mind you, i am not living in a high risk region. First occasion was in Budapest, HU, second in Eindhoven, NL. (My cameras survived trips to Rio, Johannesburg and several eastern european locations.)
The fact that the thread is on the Net, it's a matter of time when somebody will recognize stolen goods - genuinely recognize or fake it, that's a detail.

Big guys?.. Oh, common, big guys have big deals cooking... If they don't post here, it's their choise and I exept it... And as for those who see some reasons for posting here, and adding their cameras on the list, I welcome but I won't push anyone to do so, and if I even wanted, how could i possibly do that?..

You don't get the point?.. It's fun for some people, who are sitting in the office and don't know what to do... And here is a thread... Where you can find something interesting... Well... Actually I don't feel that I need to explain you, that the hole RFForum is just for fun, information and people talking. If you don't see here any points, thats fine, but I can't see reasons you are so gloomy about this thread...

I think this is a great point and am a little taken aback that you have to keep making it. What you do, what I do, what anyone else does with regards to posting to this thread should have no bearing at all regarding what the next guy who comes along decides to do. Like all threads, you have a choice to or not to participate. I happen to enjoy reading this thread, but have not posted my cameras. That is my decision, and I may at some point, but I think the information collected here is fun if nothing else.

And so far, nobody have an M3 younger than mine from 1966. 😉

and, it's quite funny that while some people hide serial number when selling a camera, some other people put their whole arsenal right up there for everybody to see.
I'm absolutely not paranoid about my stuff,- as long as something does make sense, or i see the fun in it, i participate. see the numerous camera&coffee posts, or the traveling canonet project, or etc etc
But to just list serial numbers and other data...i just don't see the point, sorry.

What i ment with the "big guys with many leicas" comment is, that the fact that e.g. T A does not post anythin of his tens of M data, might mean something. While we do see occasionally some of his favourites...so he's also not paranoid about it...

Of course, everybody with their own choices!
 
You are just a sociologist trying to understand human behavior. I gave that up years ago and just flow with it. Some times I feel really normal, and other times I realize ....

Well, i can't answer it for HIM. But.
1. If i see my camera here that was stolen, (although i am sure that it wasn't stolen by the rff member and also, almost sure that i cannot do anything to get it back), i would feel pretty angry and would not resist commenting the facts.
2. If I was the one who posted a body that is recognized by someone as their former camera that was stolen, well.. I would feel, again, pretty awkward about it and wouldn't know what to do with the situation. I could not just say "so what".

By the way, in most countries buying / having stolen goods is also a criminal act. But that's a different story altogether.
 
There were several points "Why to post SNs and other cameras info" written in this thread... If that's not enough for you, I don't know what else to say... Somebody thinks it is interesting, and someone don't...

And here again... Rover, you couldn't say that your M3 is the oldest yet, if there was no such thread... My point, is that it's a little unfair, that you made some conclusion just on the others SNs, and don't want to show yours... BUT!.. It's your decision, and I respect that... Only, maybe you could reconsider it... 😉

I respect whatever choise - if some collectors, who have more then ten cameras don't post here... They might have their own opinion on this, cause certainly when you have 1 camera there is 1 to million possibility that it will show up to be stolen... And if you have ten cameras, chances that one of them was stolen are growing...

But, I think, that most of guys sit there and don't post, cause they have other deals to do... Or perhaps they just don't read this topic... Or they just don't see the point... Or MAYBE they have their fingers broken (OMG) and can't print their SNs... 🙂

Ok, just did it...

Everyone is welcomed here to write SNs and show some camera pics with SNs... I don't have much net-beer, but I could get some, if that makes someone feel free to participate... 🙄

No preference, no difference. Both function the same.

I prefer no self-timer though. Cleaner looking, easier to hold. The button rewind and lack of timer just looks cleaner to me 🙂
