Even in a world where everything has a price, we have come to expect- even insist- that many things on the Internet be free. This attitude seems to disegard the real cost -in time and money- of creating and running sites that many enjoy. I believe RFF and PN ( for RF loving Photographers) are great values. For a relatively small sum of money annually- and even that is voluntary- I am able to extract, if I wish, hours of entertainment and education any day, any time, for as long as I want. I, like everyone else, may have my little issues with some aspects of RFF, but overall, I must admit that I love the site ; and (dare I admit it ?) sometimes spend much of the evening just cruising around , looking at pictures, browsing the classifieds, and stopping in to read people's opinions, and sometimes, participating in discussions.
So, I'd like to applaud everyone who is involved in creating and running this site, for providing a wonderful place where photographers can come and spend time. 🙂

(No, nothing new has happened; just woke up this morning with more than my usual dose of insight. Hmm,,,must try to remember which way I slept) 😉

Let me just add that RFF is what it is because of you/us the members. The most important thing you can contribute to the forum is the words in your posts. Yes, we all need to mind our manners and though we stray sometimes, that builds our community which supports our focus of RFF Photography and Cameras.

Membership is free and everyone is equal. Some have made the decision to contribute financially to the site and that is great. Jorge pays a great maintenance fee (over and above his time) to keep RFF going. He does that though the retail sponsors, our contributions, and slipping more than a few bucks each week out of his wife's purse. If you wish to, you can contribute by "purchasing" (sounds like a bad word to me) a premium membership, in turn you will have some additional features of the site. This is voluntary of course.

Keep posting guys, the site has grown, but it is just as good or better than it was on Day 1. And remember, the greatest value you add to RFF is your participation.

By the way, do you know when RFF's birthday is? It is coming up.

Let me say frankly and openly. There is no Photography forum at the net even nearing the RFF, and I ask myself if there is any other forum of any kind able to match this one.

Much of it is precisely because of the way it was designed beforehand, and maintained, Thanks to Jorge Torralba. Wholeheartedly thanks to Jorge, Artist in his own way.

Much of it is precisely because of the TYPE of dialogue you can engage in, making the undesirable sides left quite at the shadows of the unparalleled strengths. I love it.

Cheers,
Ruben

😀 i'm sure that will happen Joe!

RFF sure is a nice place to contribute and to hang out in.

to counter balance...

what's constantly missing from many people's mind (or GREAT minds as so many eager souls to jump on so quickly) when mentioning "free" is that the contributions from members are also FREE to this forum. Without the contributions, the site will die an instant death.

so thank yourself while thanking the owner of the forum.

Bah, humbug. This was a nice place before all the peaceniks and navel-gazers and tree-huggers showed up and started insisting that everyone be excellent to each other. Frankly, I would not give a stuffed fig for the lot of ya. Next thing ya know, there will be peace breaking out worldwide. I just hope we can contain it here.

And just so we're clear - anybody puts a hug on me, they're going to find out if old fat Bill can still execute an inside wheel kick upside their punkin haid. Harumph.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

Hey folks Bill and Joe, for some of us at the underdeveloped nations, your English sounds rather Shakespearean, as to our ability to follow you.

Cheers,
Ruben

your use of "underdeveloped" is very slightly hilarious. Maybe it is the time of night here in the states, but it just reads funny on a photography forum. It is appropriate, though. Fully reasonable. Just funny.

development is relative.

A very valid point. The site itself it not "free", it costs a great deal of money to provide. The only thing that is free is the normal membership and, most importantly, the members contributions.

There have been very many posts from members thanking others for the free help, advice, knowledge and indeed support that they have shared for free. However, I don't remember seeing many from members thanking others for insults they provided freely.

I know which sort of free contribution I would prefer and I suspect the majority are the same. 😉

Kim

Oh I forgot to add humour to the list of good things that were free 😉
