Turned mine on and the aux finder appears dead. Anyone else have this happen?

The aux finder is optical. Do you mean the LCD?

Maybe we have the Case of the Missing X. As in GXR, which does have an optional EVF. (Mine never conked, though it sometimes got stuck at 90 degrees.)

Yes. GXR -- thanks very much. Definitely digital. Definitely dead. Although the rear LCD works ok. Hate chimping. Just hate it.

That is sad to hear. Probably stupid questions: are the contacts clean and the finder firmly seated? Is there any life if you move the finder up/down through 90 degrees - the joint is apparently a weak spot in the design.

That's too bad, since the finders are now rare as used hens' teeth.
Try cleaning contacts in EVF/camera, or to see whether any have lifted loose/twisted/shorted?
Maybe push out the pin in the hinge (it has tiny rubber caps at either end, but these pop off, and it is mechanical/unelectrical, just a steel pin) if only to see if its free play makes any diff?
Good luck.
