Ricoh GR-D II

I just received mine last night - superfast delivery from Popflash. My first impressions are that it handles really well, the controls are very intuitive and you can have full control over every aspect of the image as you would with the full blown DSLR. I have been using it with the screen off, using the accessory viewfinder to compose. It is nice and small but has a bit more weight than the average P+S so it feels good in the hand. I like having a fixed lens, I'm looking forward to the challenge of composing with the 28mm field of view.
Finally it looks great, the black plain finish is very understated. It should be fine company for my M3.

I ordered mine the other day, the fixed lens is what worries me... I want to take a lot of pictures of landscapes etc... but I also need it for shots of my kid. It will be a challenge.

Got mine yesterday.

I can post some pics when I've got something worthy to post.

However I'm not a lot in post-processing so it will be all about what lightroom does with my RAWs.

I even have a studio shoot (well, in fact its a course) tonight, perhaps I can try a few shots with my GRD-II!

Can't wait to see the shots!

I'm interested to see how these shots come out, particularily at the higher ISO's. I was reading about this earlier, and my interest was certainly raised. If this does improve n the ISO issues of the mk1 I may not wait around for the DP1...

The jazz band shot looks VERY grainy, even small. Is that a misleading impression? (And is the drummer really a pixie?)

Nice shots, especially the first one. Was it 1600iso?

Also have an idea to order it. And did anybody try 40mm converter?

IF you could post slightly larger examples it would be a little easier to see... but I think the picture of the jazz band probably is not as grainy; it could be downsampling artifacts

GRD2 Shots and comparison to GX100 and GRD

You can look at the following threads for a comparison of the RAW files from the GRD2, the GX100 and the GRD, particularly the second one thread, which has a better comparison — in these the threads I've posred small JPGs showing the compaison of the developed RAW files as well as links for downloanding the RAW files themselves.

Also, under my signature below you can see GRD2 shots on the first two pages of my flicrs site. And here is a GRD2 shot at ISO400 taken a week ago in Paris:

Mitch,
Beautiful work! I think your images owe a lot to your post-processing prowess as well as nice little cameras (as well as a good photographic eye...etc).

I have a GX100 on the way: I know you shoot Raw...does that mean you don't worry about the camera settings (sharpening, saturation, etc)? If you do use settings, any suggestions?

Do you shoot in black and white or in color? If the latter, how to you like to monochrome your images?

I looked at quite a few of the GX100 images on flickr (not all, there's about 40,000!) and your work is some of the best being done with this camera.

cheers

I like the GR-D as a take everywhere environmental portrait camera.

Here's a black and white of my son (PP through Lightroom) - a couple more on my Flickr,,
and here a couple of quick (no PP) in colour. None of these are RAW, all jpg fines, which is fine for me b/c I am a rank amateur in PP and the impact of RAW- YMMV!
