All the good things people are telling you are true. It's solidly built, it's great in pocket yet has all the toys of larger cameras, it's grain looks like film grain-- a product of Ricoh's in-camera software.. etc. But you want to be talked out of it and I have been there before so.. here we go..
I bought a GRD IV last fall when it came out and before I even bought it I thought.. I could get a new consumer DSLR for this price, what am I doing paying this much for this dinky thing? The fixed focal range-- sure a lot of people like that but when your legs can't get you across the street in time.. you lose the shot. When you can't zoom upwards, you miss all the details of that facade. It can macro, but sorry, no point and shoot does macro like a true macro lens can. Now do you want accessories? They are all ungodly priced too. The leather case that will accommodate the viewfinder.. toss in another hundred. The viewfinder.. two. Of course you can find people selling used ones just like you can the camera, but you can find people selling other used cameras too. I ended up with a Canon G12 for my vacation.. and it did everything I needed for less, still fit in my purse or can fit in a jacket pocket and you can use filters on it. Yea for the polarizer in bright Sydney summer sun. The GRD is a great little camera but there are a lot of other great little cameras that can do a great bit more. Ricoh lovers don't think I'm hating on the camera, I liked it, but the op wants to hear the rest of it...
Now if you want a Canon G12.. 😀
