Ricoh GR Digital

The Ricoh GRD has a beautiful grain when shooting at 800 ISO in black and white mode! It is very film-like. In the default settings there is a strong contrast to the images like the work of Bill Brandt. This camera renders images with an amazing character! I have seen nothing like it in digital cameras before. I'm amazed about the volume of reviews and enthusiastic users of this camera. It is shaping up to be a cult-classic camera.

Exactly. This is going to be the next Hexar AF. That is why I decided to get one already - I don't think prices will be going down much.

Mitch, best way to get the inline images on the thread (as opposed to thumbnails) is to upload the images to your RFF gallery. Then rightclick on the fullsize image, then choose 'copy link location.' Alternatively, if they are uploaded somewhere else on the net, copy that link location.

Go to the thread and click on the 'insert image' button (Yellow, looks like a postcard of a mountain). Paste the link location. Click 'OK.'

Ray, did you read Sean Reid's <link> review of this camera? He writes poetically about it and has great examples. I've quite enjoyed the site and found it worth the subscription.

Thanks, I'll have to figure out what is the Mac equivalent of right-clicking.

Could be useful, but I'm must say that I'm not that interested in reading about a camera that I know well, as I don't need to read something to tell me whether I should like it. On the other hand, if I were deciding whether to buy it, I would prefer to download, and pay for, one review rather than a subscription to the site.

Having seen Mitch's prints i think the GRD has much potential in the sort of work i do its very small and discreet just like its predessor the GR1s.

Thanks for the Links sirus
(BTW OT but how do you get to apply colours to your Signature?
I tried the HTML code buttons above the text box but i can't get it to work?)

...highlight the text in your signature that you would like to colour and then click on the colour tab next to sizes in the menu above. cheers

I love the results I can get out of my GRD.. It's not as good in bright sun light however..

Amazing colour! It seems to do an excellent job with gradations in blue sky...

I read that the best setting for this camera when taking daytime photos is to put the contrast down to zero and then normalizing the colour in post-production. It will capture more information in the shadows and highlights then. The other settings, colour and sharpness, were fine at the default. Elsewhere they talked about the tendency for the camera to over-expose a little---which could be approached with the exposure compensation.

I read the review earlier today. Frankly, considering the results I've seen people produce with this camera, I may just disregard the reviews and start trading in gear.

just picked up a GRD..This is a great camera! Its small and simple and takes great pictures. The BW mode is very good.
