Ricoh GR1v trouble

I'm having an issue with my GR1v right now where when I press the shutter release, the shutter won't fire. The lens makes the whirring focusing sound and protrudes a bit, but when I completely press the shutter it just goes back to normal without the shutter going off.
I've had the issue before but it went away after a day, now just getting it again today.. What could be causing this?

Try cleaning the battery contacts. use the eraser head of a pencil if you have one. Take the battery out for about 10 minutes and put it back in. Or you could try a new battery if it's not a new one already. Keep trying. It may free it up eventually. Other than that, it's off to a repairer. Nice camera btw. Got one myself.

I actually had this happen a while ago too, but it went away after a couple days and had been okay for about a month or so.. hope it doesn't keep up I'd hate to have to send her off.

If I do need to get it fixed, who should I be contacting? I am in Canada, I couldn't find any info about repair on the Ricoh US or Canada websites for their 35mm cameras..

Well I'm in the UK so I'm not too clued up on Canada, but had a quick scan and found this. http://www.acecam.com/canada2.html If you look just past half way down, there are a few camera repair services. Camtex looks ok and state they are an authorized Ricoh warranty repair cente. There are contacts so just give them a call or e-mail. Try the others listed as well if need be. Hope you get sorted. Let me know how you get on.

Great, thanks for the info. I will shoot em an email and see what's up.

So far removing the battery/cleaning out the contacts hasn't worked.. Hope this goes away on its own but might be a pain if it keeps recurring.

I just had to have my GR1s repaired and I sent it to CRIS cam in arizona. I had a few problems with shipping so here are my tips if you go down this road:

1. Ship it to them via Canada post. with a tracking number.
2. Ask them to ship it back via USPS if they can.
3. Ask them to mark on the return invoice "Canadian goods returning from repair".

They sent mine back via UPS and they charged an arm and a leg for brokerage fees. If they send it back via USPS, you will pay very little brokerage fees. Also, if it is marked as canadian goods, you will not pay taxes.

FYI CRIS cam did a great and fast job. They just need to revise their international shipping methods. 🙂

Ah yeah the good ol' brokerage fees eh.. You'd think most companies would take those things into consideration for you...

what was the issue with your gr1s? Just wondering how much this repair is gonna cost me. I could get the shutter to go off every once in a whlie (especially after giving it a couple convincing knocks) so I am thinking there might be some loose wiring or something which shouldn't be too expensive to fix..

Problem solved!

Well kind of. Turns out I just need to press on the right side of the shutter release, if I push the left or somewhere around the middle, it still won't go off.. Kind of annoying I guess things could've been worse.

sounds like a bad contact like we used to get on the hexar AF. Give it a good clean if u're feeling adventurous?

any instructions online about how to open her up? I have no idea where to approach it from, I'd love to be able to get in the viewfinder and clean the dust too..
