Ahoy!
A couple of these are currently up on the Bay...of course at vast 'buy it now' sums, but how much are these actually worth? Well, i suppose that isn't important, but how rare are they? One of the auctions mentions something about there being only around 1000 of these made - true?
Ah, perhaps it's more around 4000?
Ignoring the price, i'd love to get my hands on one..

I'm going to Tokyo in May and I was considering getting one of these cameras.
What do you guys say? Is it worth it? I love the handling of my GR1s and I'd love to venture into the wide angle territory. But when considering the steep price of the GR21 nowadays, I'm consumed by the doubt: should I get a cheap 21mm lens for my Leica instead to play with that FOV instead?

This compacts aren't new, parts are small and mostly built without reserve to last, repair options are slim nowadays so this is lust and nostalgie territory.
Ebay sold items shows a price of between $1000-1200 which is consistent with what I've seen over the years. Right now on ebay, there is one with a current bid of $305.00. That may be your best shot since it isn't a fixed price auction.

I saw one in a shop in Tokyo last summer for about 65,000 yen. The condition looked darn near perfect.

That doesn't sound too bad, especially now that the JPY is weaker w.r.t. the EUR and USD. I would probably fall for the "lust" if ever see a nice one priced like that.

It is difficult to find - but the Ricoh 21mm f3.5 also exists in LTM (Leica screw mount). Couples to the rangefinder too. Rather small production, maybe 500 in black and 500 in chrome. Works very well, clean images with very little distortion and vignetting. Very compact, almost too much so as it can be difficult to use the aperture ring (with the "stick" on it) and the focussing ring.

Around 4000 of these were made. A fair price would be around $800-900, of course you get bargains from time to time.
Used to own one, liked the lense. The body also had some modifications distinguishing itself from regular GR1v, for example a PC socket and shutter speed display that goes down to 1/8 (if memory serves) second.
For now Ricoh Japan still services it, at a price though.
