Or is Perceptol exotic? I've not tried ORWO in ID-11/D-76, but would expect a Plus-X-ian rendition there as well.

Yeah u can get plus-X bulk on eBay from the last cine rolls, I recently secured 24 feet and yet another 100ft bulk from there.
As long as it has been stored cool, it will keep for a very long time, I add them to the 15 rolls I managed to get hold of in 2011 from various stores.

See this is the challenge: Plus-X looked a certain way yet like all films was flexible in how that look came about with different developers and dilutions.
The films today have their own Look and of course the same applies to developer types and dilutions.
Acros in HC-110 will look like Acros in HC-110. Not like Plus-X in Microdol-X 1:0.
Like I said; TMax100 in Perceptol 1:0 is close.

Try Delta 100, which has "punchy" tones and high sharpness. I like ID-11 as the dev, but I'm sure it would be fine in HC-110. I have used the Ilford equivalent called LC29. Sample pic from M2/Biogon:

It's very strange... Here in Lima usually nobody was too fan of Plus-X, everybody said that FP4 was a "better" film, and FP4 was all the rage for a medium speed film.
Then Plus-X was discontinued and i was surprised to see in forums that it was so missed.
Personally i think PX was a better film than FP4, but i like Delta 100 and TMX better.

Okay, let me rephrase.
Which widely available 35mm BW film of similar speed currently made gives the most "Plus-X like" results,
preferably developed in HC-110 (my most often used developer), and that both scans and prints well?

Trough google, you will find even more discussions regarding this and it seems that the conclusion differes from person to person, but I can see that FP4 is mentioned a lot.

Indeed, I'm sure there have been similar threads here and at APUG and p.net etc.
But I thought folks at RFF might like to discuss "what's most like Plus-X" here in this Plus-X thread.
I added a bit to make my query more specific to my own preferences. Is that okay?
Also I thought there might be more than one "answer" er, opinion.

Again; here's the deal; When you use X film in Y developer; it will look like X film in Y developer. Trying to make X film look like K film when using Y developer just means it now looks like
X film in Y developer.
If you want X film to look like the old and gone K film you have to tinker with using Z developer instead of Y developer.
Thats the no B.S. version; a shortcut if you're sharp.
The Kodak Medium speed film widely found processed in Perceptol 1:0 looks close to what a common Plus-X look would be. The spectral sensitivity is slightly different which adds to the difficulty in trying to match. The Perceptol suggestion is not in deference to your commonly used HC-110, its just you'll probably get closer to a "Plus-X Look" with something other than the commonly used HC-110. HC-110 and Plus-X was often used and I used some for some very expired 120 Plus-X Pro but ultimately found DK-50 1:1 suited my ideas for that batch of film. Perceptol is a version of Microdol-X which was often used with Plus-X particularly at 1:3 which would also be a good idea to test to see if TMax100 can look like Plus-X. You might want to try a light green filter for this as well.
Do be a good chap and show us some sample to see how it works. I still have one or two rolls of Plus-X I might shoot as a test against Tmax100.

Agree with all this. Plus-X had the most beautiful tones, excellent sharpness and not enough grain to worry about. To my eye Tri-X does not look as sharp and does not have the same kind of gradation while TMX is completely different to both of them.

Well, simply responding to the original post, I really miss Plus-X. I have a few rolls left in the freezer, and probably should stp hanging onto them and just shoot!
I also never really got on with HP4. Don't know why - it could be just me, but I find Plus-X a much easier film to shoot and develop.

Plus-X was beautiful.
The closest film in terms of tonality and spectral response is TMY-II. You can shoot it at 200 if you develop in Perceptol, D23, or other speed-reducing developers.
