RIP Tom A

This is very sad news. My condoleances to Tom's family.
Tom was a gentleman, kind, helpful.
It always surprises me a bit how communities like this one are able to create a real sense of connection between people that never meet face to face.
I never met Tom, but I'm a actually a bit shocked by his passing.
I know he will be really missed by so many people like me around the world...

I offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences to Tom’s loved ones, friends and colleagues for their loss.

I knew of Tom only through his knowledgeable, generous and joyous postings: his kindness shone through in everything he wrote. What a wonderful human, and what terrible loss to our community.

RIP, Tom.

Very sad news indeed, he was a real gentleman. He helped me out with some parts for one of his winders a few years back and wouldn't even accept international postage! A sad loss of a most thoughtful and clever man. RIP Tom

I ordered a few Softies this evening.

I am feeling pretty humbled by things lately, I spent some time out in California over the holidays with my 80 year old step father who is terminal with mesothelioma, said goodbye, father passed away last year and now Tom leaving the world....more and more I feel I really need to be a kinder and gentler person in places like this, so I will be.

Goodness me, such terrible news. I always got the feeling that Tom was such a gentleman and so helpful to others, a really special kind of decent human. Reading all of these comments, it seems that was indeed most certainly the case. My sincerest condolences and heartfelt sympathies go out to his loved ones.

Tom was one of the reasons why I visit RFF regularly. Although I've never met him, his knowledge, contagious enthusiasm for his craft and support of the RFF community impressed me deeply. My heartfelt condolences to his family!

Tom was always fun and helpful on these forums. The news is rather shocking considering he was posting here only a few days ago, and I don't think he ever mentioned anything about his injury. But I guess nobody ever knows when something like this could happen. He will be missed.

ADMIN EDIT

Tom Abrahamsson was loved by everyone who knew him, an amazing man of incredible kindness, curiosity, optimism and love for life.
And yes, he just happened to know more about photography and Leica than anyone else I ever knew.

Tom also had an almost inexhaustible store of amazing true stories. One of my favorites was being stopped in the back roads of Finland by a motorcycle cop who wanted to see what Tom was transporting on a dark and cold night. The cop peered into the back with his flashlight, only to see the hood of a king cobra raise up in its cage. For some reason he then lost all interest what was in the back seat and was happy to see Tom and his cargo on their way.

Tom fell November 29th, hurting his back and limiting his mobility. That started almost daily doctor visits. He checked into the hospital January 1st.
He passed away this morning unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack. My deepest condolences to Tuulikki.

He was my friend. I will miss him a lot. But then, Tom was everyone's friend. He was that sort of person.

I think he is heaven now, laughing and talking with Oskar Barnack about how to improve the next Leica M.

God Bless Thomas

Stephen

Thank you for that edit, Stephen.
