Some great and highly disturbing pictures in here.
This thing was spotted by me and my old band during one of our treks across country a few years ago. It had been picked totally clean with the exception of a portion of one leg. Looked like it had just happened, too.
Ironically, my friend in the picture is a vegetarian.

This was a terribly sad sight. This is a female snapping turtle that was trying to cross the road when she was hit. She was full of eggs, some of which can be seen here.

John McPhee wrote a great non-fiction book, I believe it was "The Pine Barrens", that include a thread about this very subject. There's a character in the book, a park ranger (?), who in his/her travels comes across roadkill quite often. This person would stop at these crime scenes to have a look. If the critter was still fresh, it would be tossed into an ice chest kept in the vehicle just for this person. Saved a trip to the store. 🙄

someone did a photo book maybe 15 or 20 years ago about cooking roadkill on the rear deck above the engine bay on a Ferrari.
McPhee is a great writer, Jamie, so I'll have to check that out. Especially since the Pine Barrens are here in NJ.

Oh yeah! New Jersey roadkill... I hear its quite tasty. And I've also heard of someone skinning out some roadkill, wrapping it in tin foil, and then setting it on the motor for the ride home. By the time they got there, dinner was ready. 🙂
