Rollei 35 pictures

Thanks for your great feedback, guys! I made several zines by magcloud and hope the book comes out as well!

In 2014 I will shoot color in my Rolleis; stay tuned!

Just got the book. Congrats, Zeno, it looks great. Looking forward to your color shots with the Rollei 35!

Rollei The best camera to bicycle trip. Nex time i have to load Rollei Retro in it.

I was wondering if all the 35S are like this, or just mine, but my 35S has quite a high-effort focus throw, and the shutter release is quite a deliberate *PRESS* and then metallic *SHTICK*, rather than a fluid push and sudden smooth release. The shutter is also not very quiet, though admittedly I'm not too familiar with leaf-shutters (but it was my understanding that they are generally quite quiet).

The focus rotation is smooth, but high-effort, which lends me to believe it's just like the hasselblad 80/2.8s (high effort but precise), rather than a lubrication issue. The shutter actuation also seems like it could just be like that (not indicative of some issue), but it require a fair amount of pressure to get it to release. Perhaps I am just too used to some of the more pricey rangefinders' shutter-releases...

Can anyone chime in with their thoughts on this?

The shutter of my 35S is not quiet, same as the 35T. The sound is different, but on the same level of loudness. The release of the 35S is exactly as you desribe yours.
The focus ring of my 35S is smooth, but needs some force to set the distance. The focus ring of my 35T is loose, the ring can be moved by thought;-)

Congratulations on the color.
Superb.
The colors are beautiful, the framing perfect.
The look of film color so different from the other stuff.
OK. I like both..
But like one better.
Petronius you cause me to carry my battered, abused Rollei 35T!

I had a 35S for about a week, bought it as a present for my sister but I couldn't not take it out for a few rolls. It was fun.

Great color photos, Zeno! They support my theory about the Rollei 35: Tessar lenses are best with color, Sonnar lenses are best with black and white. Actually, the Tessar is best with everything...

Thank you, Steve! I never shot a color frame with the Sonnar, but it will be soon! There are some great color shots from the Sonnar in this thread, iirc.

Really? I've both heard it said (Internet) and my personal experience is that the Sonnar is better for color, and the Tessar is better for B&W.

The thread has inspired me to exercise my 35S a bit more. I've got it with me today, sitting on the table next to my vanilla latte at this cafe. She's loaded with Fuji C200 (which I had thought was Superia but apparently it isn't)...

I know it's contrary to received wisdom, but it's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :)

I haven't shot the Rolleis, (I'm in the thread because I almost bought a 35b today, but it seemed seized, so I left it), but I find that I love colour in the Contax T3 Sonnar and B/W in the Yashica T4 Tessar.

Edit. just seen that I'm not the first to post this.

Doesnt mean Im right, just curious as to your results

Petronius, your colour Rollei photos really invoke the work of Saul Leiter. Is that what you were aiming for? I love them.

Clive, thank you for the kind ords! I shoot this color style since the 80s. When I discovered Saul Leiter some years ago, it was quite frustrating that he had done all I wanted much better decades before!
Beside Saul Leiter my color work is influenced by Harald Mante, Franco Fontana and Ernst Haas.
I can recommend the movie about Saul Leiter "In no great hurry"!
