Russian Lens Hoods?

Hello - I've been trying to figure out a lens hood arrangement for my collapsible 50mm f/3.5 FED lens. I could probably use a Leitz VALOO hood, but was there a Russian-made hood for this lens? For that matter, did the Russians even make lens hoods for their lenses?

This is my home brew solution Vince - this one turned to take 32mm push-on hood and filters, I believe there were one or two similar commercial adaptors available.

I got--originally for my '37 Leitz 9cm Elmar--a Leitz/Leica made adapter that clamps to the front of the lens and has 39mm threads. I then got--from "heavystar" on ebay--two 39mm hoods, one for the Elmar and one for my I-22 collapsible. The adapter is a bit loose on the Industar but I just put a small piece of tape on the lens.
The VALOO is the hood that also can adjust the aperture? Wouldn't work on my I-22 since it wouldn't engage the aperture adjustment correctly.
I have seen very occasionally, a36 hoods that were made in the FSU. And you could try either "Alex-photo" or "photo_widget" Alex sells mostly FSU stuff, Photo_widget sells vintage hoods and filters and likely would have something to fit your FED.
Likely you could find some "Series" adapter and hood for it as well but I have no idea what you'd need to look for. Possibly a36 push on to Series 5?

there were original push on rectangular hoods.

I have occasionally seen FSU hoods, usually for later Jupiter or Industar 50mm lenses, at fedka.com.

A rectangular plastic hood was made, which fits the J-3, J-8 and I-61 and can be had from www.fedka.com among others. A round one for the J-9, and hoods for other Soviet lenses, can be seen on the web site of Valdis Dybov and perhaps can be bought from him.

There are push-on 36mm hoods if you look around. I have one push-on that fits the collapsibles and and an almost identical threaded one that fits the rigid I-50.

Hi, Best solution Ive found is to make your own from plastic jar caps etc and cardboard with a bit of sticky tape, paint matt black and bingo, not pretty or professional but effective and cheap easily replaced when lost or broken. But I do not have access to lots of cash so I am afraid it has to be cheap and cheerful plus cost effective.. Regards to all

And just as likely to stay on the lens as the FSU plastic jobs, I bet. I have used the Leitz FISON, which is made for Elmar, for years. It can be found cheap on eBay.

This is my solution...

An inexpensive 36mm push on metal hood available from a few Russian-Ukraine vendors.
I think it was $7 shipped from the Ukraine.
Then again you might just want to get one of those really cheap Leica FISON hoods.

They did. They made several types in plastic and metal for their various lenses. Some lenses came with fixed, retractable lens hoods. The Industar collapsibles used slip ons which can also fit Elmars. But the Russian plastic slip on hoods are a bit longer and tend to fall off.

A black tubular thing about 3-4 cm slipped over the lens can be as effective.

What Lens Hood to Use for Industar or Jupiter Lenses?
