I can't seem to find info on this elsewhere, and since there seem to be a few RX100 owners here I'll give it a shot. I just got an RX100 II for my girlfriend because she wants a new camera, and she likes B&W photography. She has lots of experience with art but not much with photography, and I think shooting B&W photos might help her learn more quickly, similar to how shooting B&W has helped me.

Is there a way to set the RX100's LCD to B&W while shooting? I figure it should be easy enough to convert jpg's to B&W in-camera, but it would be even more helpful to see the B&W image before releasing the shutter. Is this sort of feature relegated to more advanced cameras?

Absolutely.

I shoot exactly this way. Set CREATIVE STYLE to "Black & White."

Shoot RAW+JPG and you will always have color to retrieve from the RAW, if desired.

That's awesome, thanks for the response. The RX100 does seem like a useful tool for someone just getting started in photography, and it has enough depth to not become too stifling down the line.

My fuji GW670 has this option.

Being colourblind helps of course. :D

A side-benefit of using the B&W "creative style" setting, is that the red overlay of the focus peaking (should you choose to use it) is a little easier to see.
