D'oh!
Late-summer isn't the best time to sell photo gear. That black S3 2000 was really tempting, but I passed.

Yes, in the back of my mind I wondered if I should hold off until after the Labor Day weekend before posting this set. In fact, it would have been better to do that.

Nikkor. What else?
I was leafing through a photography magazine from August 2000 and found an article announcing the then new S3 2000. It compares it to the vintage S3. Price quoted for a mint vintage S3 in the year 2000 was USD 3,000.I read somewhere ,
8000 chrome s3 2000 kits
2000 black s3 2000 kits.
Hard to believe the chrome s3 2000 kit was $5500 when issued new .
The dealer cost of the new S3 was $ 5,000, and the author of the article reckons it would go for sale at $ 5,500, calculating a 10% margin for the dealer. Also stated is that only 200 would be imported by Nikon USA.
I don't remember how strong the dollar was back in the year 2000, but it does seem a lot of money. Surely we are at a good buying point now in 2012.
The article concludes by saying "The millennium Nikon S3 is undoubtedly a mouth-watering machine intended for well-heeled collectors. If it sells well, who knows, there may be future Nikon rangefinder classics or possibly more S3s."
