S3 2000 & S3 2002 Serial Number Registry

Which early serial number range of the S3 2000 cameras had a factory machining fault on the external bayonet which caused problems when mounting lenses that use the outside bayonet lens mount?

I'm late to the party, purchased 2000 S3 chrome last year

Purchased very lightly used with all boxes and documentation, and have been using it often. Even shot some E-6 Velvia 50 with great results. A joy to carry and use, always getting comments and questions about it when I'm out in the field. Got my eye on a Black S3 2002 now as have seen a decline in prices as of late and from what I understand only ~2000 black versions were manufactured.
 
Bump to an old thread. Here's a new s/n that expands the range of known serial numbers for the first time in along time! I was contacted recently on Instagram by the owner of S3 2000 No. 200087 and he consented to me adding his s/n to the list here (thanks PL!).

No other serial numbers below 201000 (expect for the one pictured in the user's manual) has been reported previously, so I had always surmised that production serial numbers started from 201000. Not so!

Greetings. First Post. Living in Japan - can't travel due to COVID-19, so I started collecting Nikon camera equipment I've always wanted.

BE WARNED! The slippery slope of collecting reissue Nikon RF cameras leads directly to collecting vintage Nikon RF gear, and that's a big deep black hole (albeit a fun one). Don't ask me how I know 😱

Thank you, and I agree. Unfortunately, the damage has already been done. Just purchased a mint condition 5cm 1.1 external mount having discovered the entertainment of yahoo auctions in Japan a few weeks ago. Just won an auction a few minutes ago for an original Nippon Kogaku 62mm clear UV filter for the lens. The lens hood...well, we'll see about that. I might have to wait on that as those prices are even beyond crazy.
 
Hi there, I thought I'd share mine.



S3 303912 in Black - Lens is 207487. Lens has seen less use in favor of my 35mm f1.8 which has barely left the camera since I got it 🙂
