Sad day as film prices go up here

I've bought 50 rolls or so in the last two weeks, fresh dates, at ~$1.25 a roll. A mox of Kodacolor 200 and B&W C41. If prices doubled, they would get back to where they were 10 years ago.

I would guess that the announced price hikes will affect Joe Sixpack more than enthusiasts who know how to shop around for the best prices. If they just go to the grocery store and buy a roll of film when they want one, they'll be hit hardest.

However, as to your point about film prices - you'd be amazed how cheap film is today, even ten years ago - compared to the 60's and 70's. Prices per roll haven't changed much since then - but what a dollar would buy has changed a lot. So yes, I agree, film is a lot cheaper than is historically has been - a great deal. I suspect that there has been a lot of profit margin squeezed out in the last couple of years - margins are rather thin now and may have been higher later. No proof of that, just a suspicion.
