Hi all,
Well it finally happened, after years of use my trusty Canon i9900
printer bit the dust. I knew something was up last week when I was
printing out photos of a job I did. I printed about a hundred prints and
this morning the head transport just stopped cold, even when I open
top panel the head assembly doesn't move, it just sits there. well time
for a new machine, I was looking at a Canon IX6520 it does 11X14 size
prints and a good price too! Anybody have this printer or other ones
would be great.

I went searching tonight and in the back of my closet, their in the original box was a
printer head for my i9900, I had it since 2007 sealed in a original box, so I cleaned out
the printer inside, removed all the foam and cleaned them, installed the new head and
turned it on and it worked, it printed. I also aligned the heads and so far it working great,
need more ink, but better than buyer a new printer. I do have my eye on a Epson 2000
printer, but now a wait a little.

I think it was good planning, I know I was having a problem with
banding and called Canon when it was under warranty and they sent
me the printer head assembly, I was going to change it but never did
and stuck it in my closet with all the other stuff in there, so it work out
good. If you guy's use this printer, clean out all those foam blocks and
stripes and on the right side their's also another cleaning block I thought
it was foam but it's hard so I cleaned that as well, I just put a piece of
paper towel on top of it and left it there and let it soak up the ink it was
pretty fill up, but it's better now and prints like a champ.

I don't get one thing though.

After demonstrating the versatility of Canon printers (user replaceable heads), why would you want to consider Epson in their set ways to produce good printers that will become a very expensive doorstop once the head gives up (in my opinion: extremely unwise)

That's true, I didn't realize that you can't change the heads in those.
I guess I'll stick with Canon, your right about that. I saw on ebay a
Epson 2000 missing it's head, it was going for $50.00 dollars when I saw
it last, I guess someone needed a head and took it out to put in theirs.
