Has anyone ever been to Sarajevo? I am looking for a not so common location to spend a few days (around the weekend 20./21.). One of the local airlines has Sarajevo as direct flight destination so it's easy to get there.

Do you have some tipps? Must sees? Things to avoid? I've never been to that area before so and it's a bit short dated so every information is welcome.

Equipment? I think I will take my Hexar AF and something digital.

Thanks.

Sarajevo is a battle-scarred, but beautiful city. Despite all the pain she has gone through, the people are so incredibly friendly and have a great, positive attitude. I found it very moving even just through walking around the city - bullet holes in the buildings, Sarajevo roses scattered everywhere and large white patches of crosses where people have been buried. I long to go back there again.

As mentioned before, the bridge where the Archduke was assassinated is fascinating as is Bascarsija, the main square of Sarajevo. One thing that is a must do though, is the Sarajevo Tunnel Museum, located on the outskirts of Sarajevo, near the airport. You even get to walk through a small section of the historic tunnel. Simply amazing. Also, you must try some Bosnian Cevapi and Burek, along with some strong Bosnian coffee. Definately wakes you up early in the morning! :D

PM me if you would like some more recommendations.

All the best for your trip.
