Hi
My SBOOI has arrived and I have fitted it in the shoe of my Leica III but I am a little surprised at how loosely it slides in and out of the shoe. How tight should the fit be?

Tight, so it can't be knocked out. Cut a paper gasket and insert it over that.

I needed to add thin tab of leather under the SBOOI on my 0-series to keep it on tightly.

Depending on the play, either a single or folded piece of paper. I don't like stuff coming out of the accessory shoe, either by themselves or because I'm pulling the camera out of the camera bag.

This is a fairly common problem with Barnacks before the IIIc. I have a pair of IIIa cameras that have the same problem. The paper suggestions work very well; sometimes a piece of file card works, sometimes just a bit of paper. Each camera and finder is a bit different. Apparently there weren't specific standards for the shoes on the earlier cameras.

I would build it up the base of the finder with masking tape, so I wouldn't lose a shim.

You realise, of course, that only Leica paper cut from Leica brochures is acceptable.

yes I would hate to lose or break my SBOOI, not just because its expensive but also very cool with a superb view

But do not use paper from a brochure printed in Solms. Only a proper aged Wetzlar brochure is acceptable. Use of a Solms-printed brochure will cause the camera to reject the finder - it's something like a cat with projectile vomiting.
