Just a heads up, I received an unusual email with a link to my ad (email pasted below). The subject line and header suggests that this was directed toward me via the RFF classifieds (I have a current ad posted). This doesn't seem legit to me, what do others think?

Given how email responses are set up here, I can't imagine how a robot could have done this, and it doesn't seem very efficient for a scammer to go to each ad one at a time.
I think it is smart to always proceed with your transactions in the classifieds with caution with the goal of being 100% comfortable with who you are dealing with. That is what I do.
I don't know what can be done to prevent this from happening, but I have pointed this conversation out to Stephen and the other mods.

This is one of the most common scams on the Internet. If you get a money order from them it will be a forgery. If anyone arrives at your house they will be gangsters (possibly from Nigeria).

Same thing happened to me today
Sounds like a brwach of RFF security as it was sent directly to my
Email address and not thru RFF
I'm just disappointed that he didn't ask for my bank account number
Or tell me about his relatives who are hard luck generals in Nigeria and need help accessing their millions...

Seriously? You're not sure if this is a scam?
This is the oldest email con in existence. I'm stunned that people get messages like this and still have doubts about whether it's legit or not.
The money order you will receive will be counterfeit. Your bank will then come after you for the money. Many times the scam works where the other party gives you a cashier's check for more than the amount of the transaction as an incentive for you to accept the check. You cash the check at the bank, and hand over the goods. Then your bank comes back to you for all the money once the bad check is discovered.
This scam, and others like it, are still out there because people are still dumb enough to get taken in by them.

I'm still curious how it's so easy to discover people's actual email even if you create an RFF user

When you view a member's profile you will see two options to communicate with that person, via PM or email. You can change your settings and not accept emails through RFF. I am not sure that your actual email address is disclosed by the software, just a method to send an email.

I do not care whether it is spam, scam, or legit. I will never pass out my physical address to a stranger. You never know who or what will show up at your door.

Err I travel a bit and do not have a credit card, I have a debit card though. I try to pay as much as possible in cold hard cash, no paying some interest when it sits much nicer in my pocket.
