The firmware update was successful using an Adaptec 1460 card on Windows XP. Doing a preview fails, I suppose the scanner has at least one hardware issue. I'll do some tests as soon I find some time.
Thank god I just found this amazing thread about Scanmates at the right time. I'm a 21 year old kid that's absolutely fascinated by drum scanners. I got an amazing opportunity to save a one ScanMate 5000 scanner that has been used in a pro studio for three years (without a problem) and then left in storage for 5 or 6 years. I really want to make sure to do this right. I don't have a direct access to the scanner right now but I'm talking to the original owner/user of the scanner via e-mail/phone and he wants to try to run a "test" scan before handing it to me. I'm little scared that he just dusts it off and try to start it up.
I want to make sure that he knows the absolutely critical steps before trying to operate the scanner after all these years in (hopefully somewhat clean) storage. I went through the owners manual and I have some clue about the maintenance but would some of you be so kind to quickly sum it up for me so we don't completely mess this first step and brake this amazing piece of hardware? There's gotta be some things that can brake it without a blink of an eye.
Thank you so much! If all goes well, I want to get it up and running and start to help out other film shooters with high-resolution scanning film around my area (and also try to carry on the drum-scanning knowledge for a younger generation!).
Open CQ and perform a white calibration. If it works, you are done! If not, you need to adjust the PMT gains per the service manual instruction under section 5-6.
Dear members. I would like to find Color Quartet software for my os x 10.3.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you.
By the 35 mm scanning I have strong white flare at the perforation.
Is there any solution for fix it?
Is it possible to use this adapter (RJ45 male to USB female) to get a connection to the monitor program port:

@Netsof2K
Is this for SM5000 or SM11000 (#370)
Perhaps a cheap filter filters too much?
EDIT:
Here are some pics of my SM5000.

Software can be found on ABC-SCAN's website at:

This is most likely due to dirty optical path. You will need to clean the lens, fiber optics, and dichroic mirrors. I wouldn't recommend cleaning anything other than the main lens if you are not comfortable. You can break fibers and/or mess up focus easily. Read the service manual on how to clean the lens. It should help and also note that wet-mounting helps as well.

Thank you Pali,
Where can I find manual about cleaning these elements?
The cq works only with dongle..Can I buy somewhere?
Sheel and I have started a website dedicated to analog photography processes including drum scanners. You can access the early version of the website that includes links to Scanmate Service Manuals: www.analogfilm.camera
What version of the dongle do you need? Mac or PC? Check with ABC-Scan as they may have some or also check ebay.

This is most likely not related to cleaning the lens but there is a very small chance that you may need to recalibrate apertures.Thank you Pali the service manual.
I cleaned the lenses but after cleaning the scanner starts making horizontal green lines. What could be a problem?
The filter is cheap but not really of poor quality. It is doing as it promises which is cutting infrared light which the Scanmate's PMTs pick up and cause the red cast in shadows. Unless you are experienced with technology boards, I do not recommend replacing the filter. I know a few people who have changed the filter and every single person needed to adjust the PMTs which is a complicated process.
Thanks for your reply. The range of the R1617 tubes ( #540) is from 300 nm to 850 nm (see https://www.hamamatsu.com/us/en/R1617.html). As far as I know, IR is >700 nm and UV < 400 nm (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light#/media/File:EM_spectrum.svg). Can you confirm that the filter available on ebay (item number 281437567116) fits well for the ScanMate?
Spectrum Parameter:
Tavg >95% @440-620nm
T =50% @648+-15nm
Tavg <= 1 @ 700-1000nm
T: < 1% @ 1050nm

Where the red colour cast an issue in the 90s when the ScanMate was new?
