I've decided to think about a scanner & it seems as though the V700 fits my needs (primarily 2 1/4 with some 4x5). My only question is - does the scanner software comvert negatives to positives during the scan so I can see them on screen as they will print or will I have to try to play with a negative? Thanks for any help.

Most software gives you the option to convert negatives. Unless you really want to scan them in as negatives.

You will definitely need to calibrate your monitor if you want any hope of WYSIWYG. Custom printer profiles help too. With that said, there is a good chance you will always need to do some fine tweaking of your scanned files before you print them. The "just push a button and get perfect results" promoted by scanner makers is pretty much a myth. Be prepared to learn some new skills and spend time prepping your images before printing.
