evening guys and girls.

just hunting some information for my folks.

looking to buy a scanner that will scan slides.....i myself, am looking at the epsom v700. does this beast scan slides, or will i need a specialised scanner/accessory?

also, if anyone knows of anyone selling a leica projector, please email me at crcooper84@gmail.com

It comes with carriers for mounted slides (x12), 35mm strips (4 x 6), and rollfilm (2 strips of 3 6x6), as well as a template to allow sheet film to be scanned flat on the glass. The carriers are height-adjustable to a certain degree and can usually be dialled in to give a decent scan.

Having said that, for mounted slides I found that I got sharper scans from my old plustek 7500i - but then one loses the ability to scan slides in batches.

cool. thanks guys!! i think the v700 has sold it self here. friends of mine own them, very happy, and i have family slides to scan....would almost pay for itself in that ha. thanks again

I have the Epson V750 and I've been very happy with it. I honestly think that the Nikon Coolscans will do a better job on slides and film but there's very little difference unless you're scanning for absolute maximum detail with the intention of making "very" large prints. The other big advantage of the 700/750 is that you can scan prints as well, something you can't do with a film/slide only scanner...

Scanned from Agfachrome slide a couple of days ago V700. The slides are from 1983.

Couldn't be happier with the scanner. This one was Kodachrome from the same era.

For Pretty Good scans from 35mm film (mounted slides or negs) the Epson V700/750 flatbeds do a decent job (and, from your description of your needs, probably the best choice). For more critical scanning work, you'd be looking at a dedicated film scanner, harder to find new these days (Nikon Coolscan 5000 for 35mm only, 9000 for 35mm & medium-format), but relatively easy to find used, with greater variety.

(Barrett, a fellow insomniac, I presume. it's a minute before 4:00am and we're both giving scanner advice.)

trust Barrett's advice on this, as he's done more scanning than I.
