I recently stumbled upon the correct lens cap for my 85/2.0 lens. This is the black metal one with the 48mm female thread that is supposed to go on the reversed lens hood. Sadly while I have the cap, I don't have a hood to put it on. Does anyone know where I can find a reversible 48mm threaded lens hood which will do the job, hopefully not one designed for a wideangle lens and which therefore won't fit in the lens case. While it would be nice if it's the proper Nikon part, I'm not religious about it, and highly unwilling to pay its weight in gold for a lens hood.
In the same batch of stuff, I also got a black metal "Nikon Kogaku Tokyo" cap with 52mm female threads, and I have no idea what it fits- presumably something I will never be able to afford.
Cheers,
Dez

I asked heavystar.com but he doesn't carry these even though he seems to have everything else on the planet

If you cann't locate the Nikon hood (kevincameras probably has one), look for a Canon 85/1.9, 85/2 or T-50 hood. They are similar, reversible, 48mm, two pieces for Series VII filters.
Otherwise, sell me the cap, I'm looking for one

Roland provided an Olympus 85/2.0 hood in 49mm and 48-49 step up ring with the lens I pruchased from him. I have the Canon T-50 hood that he mentions. I also stumbled upon a 3rd party 48mm straight sided hood at a garage sale for $1.00. All work on my 8.5cm/2.0 Nikkor. I wonder if a 52mm-55mm cap might fit the end of the T-50 or 3rd part hood? Hmmmmm....

On second thought..........
I think my Canon hood is a T-50-2 which I also think is the correct hood for Canon's 85mm lenses so should be fine with the Nikkor. It works on my 85mm Nikkor.

There is both the screw on and snap on versions:

The Canon T-50-2 hood does kind of fit, and contains the mount for a series 7 filter. It is just a tiny bit too small. I put it in my lathe and opened it out ~.010", and it's just perfect, except it has no inside screw for the cap. I'm still looking for one that will do the entire job.
