I know the Nikon 135 3.5 is not a particularly popular lens, but I got a rather nice one a few years ago and have been trying to learn to like it by using it on my SP.
One major sticking point is that the spring-loaded clips in the hood mount are not particularly strong, and whenever the hood bumps against anything, the hood pops off.
Did nikon or anyone else make a hood for the 135 that simply screws onto the lens?
Please and thanks.

Nikon did, long ago and far away. It was the HN-8, a rigid screw in hood for the 105 f/2.5 and 135 f/3.5 (the 2.8 had its own built-in hood). It's also a better, deeper hood for the early 105 f/4 micro in lieu of its rather shallow built-in hood.

The HN hoods are the screw in variety. The HS versions are the snap-in (read: snap-off) variety. Here is a list:
HN series: http://www.nicovandijk.net/nikonlenshoodHN.htm

The HN series are the SLR hoods - as evident by the diameter (the RF 135/3.5 has a diameter considerably smaller than 52mm).

My Contax mount 135/3.5 came with a (presumably original, as it has a Nikon thread cap) chrome screw mount hood (with Series filter holder).

Yes this was the first version of the original lens hood for the Nikkor-Q-C 135/3.5 - not easy to find separately now.

But - any aftermarket 43mm screw-in telephoto hood will do the job perfectly.

Robert, just hood your Nikkor. 😉
