That was quick. Fuji made their top camera obsolete in less than a year.

How is it obsolete? I'd much rather have one than the nerfed XE-1

Obsolescence is regular part of digital products, and year is 365 days, does it looks better?

Usual RFF cycle. Lots M9's for sale the last couple of months, also. People need the latest and greatest; realizing after, like the last time, it wasn't the perfect camera. The hunt continues. This place would be boring without the digital hand wringing!

For me the xp1 is too versatile to be replaced by the xe1. Jamie put it pretty well in another thread. The xe1 as a second body makes more sense. Lighter second body in the messenger bag with the other lens.
On the other hand people are also as likely to be selling it to jump on the next best thing. Financing that Sony rx1 for example.

Ps. I am definitely sitting out the rx1... Waiting to c how Fuji answers.

The best camera is one that still works!
There's a lot of people out there who get a new car every year ... does that bother you Akiva?

at this point in time, knowing that a xp2 is in the works...it makes sense to me to get an xe1 first and wait for the xp2...

Some people just want to change their cameras as often as they can afford to ... and good luck to them!
I'm sure the ones who are doing so earned the right with remuneration from hard work ... and they're probably not frittering their dosh away on other things that we may be ... food for example!

Obsolescence is strictly in the eye of the beholder anyway.
Or in other words: You buy camera X because it suits you; if now you think it's obsolete because camera X+1 is out, it's basically your own fault.

It's a clunky feeling camera. It doesn't have the immediacy of traditional RFs or modern SLRs/DSLRs.

This. Although it's class leading image quality, high ISO performance and hybrid viewfinder are anything but obsolete. For now.

i agree with OP and find it unusual to see so many less than one year old xp1s for sale. its a premium camera and, like other premiums, should have a longer life cycle. comparing it to number of for sale 5-7 year old m8&9s is to ignore the topic, which is based on a premium camera being sold off under a year from its introduction. the sheer number indicates to me its way more than folks 'naturally' trading up. i dont believe that means its obsolete, but the unusually high numbers for sale does indicate some kind of dissatisfaction. now that 'dissatisfaction' may indeed be based on unreasonable expectations, but thats another topic. certainly, though, something unusual IS happening with this camera.

The electronics age can make "top products" quickly obsolete. This is the price of technological advances

M8and9's are kind of unique, specialist cameras and most of buyers know what to expect. XP1 is AF compact, some people don't care for OVF as they are used to LCD and composing at arm's length so they will easily jump off to other camera. This is how I see this.
