Seeing a lot of Fuji X-Pro 1's for sale

Live up to what?

The hype. I realize there were a few words in between "it" and "hype" but it seemed to make sense reading it. Let me rephrase for you, to avoid confusion:

"Seems like a lot of folks got one and aren't in love with it. There was a lot of hype about it and frankly, from a non-user, it seems like it didn't quite live up to it [the hype]."

Fair enough and that makes more sense. I guess I'm just sensitive because I really like the camera. :)

I couldn't get on with the X-Pro 1 - AF was painfully slow (even compared to the X100, much less something like the OM-D), the OVF wasn't as useful as on the X100, the 18mm was a thoroughly mediocre lens outside of the center. The various claims about the sensor's superiority to FF bodies from Canikon were absurd to me.

It's a good camera, but it didn't seem to excel in any one way.

unfortunately i dont have one, do have the x100, but ive seen what seemed to me extraordinarily good shots from the 35/1.4, beyond the very good quality i get from the x100. frankly it was those observations that have held my interest in this camera. did you feel that combo was mediocre as well? many on this forum have compared that combo favorably to the m9...

No one with serious technical chops was making claims of superiority. But it is true that with a good lens like the XF 35/1.4 the camera's measured real-world linear resolution (65 lp/mm) exceeds that of the D700, and that its high-ISO performance is comparable to the D700 (the same is true of the NEX-7 and several other recent APS-C cameras). So it can be fairly said to be on-par with a one-generation-old but highly regarded FF DSLR that is still in wide professional use. I don't think that that is a controversial assessment. At least, it shouldn't be controversial among people who are paying attention.

The XF 18 is not a super-sharp landscape lens, but for a pancake, lightweight (116 g) fast (f/2) 28mm EFL lens that sells for $600, it is very, very good — particularly at medium range and particularly wide open. These features make it an outstanding reportage lens. It also is by far the fastest-focusing of the three current XF lenses.

We'll see how the AF looks after the 2.0 firmware update, to be released 5 days from now. At least some who have used it are claiming OM-D like performance. Time will tell.

After looking at the Fujis, the Panasonics actually seem like a better deal.

But I did break down and buy a new Golf Tdi to replace the 200K+ '84 BMW. That's a new car about every 15 years.

Be realistic ... it hasn't lived up to it's hype which isn't to say there's anything wrong with it!

Fuji were way over the top with their hype preceeding the release of the X100 but luckily the camera came very close, most people loved the thing ... I don't think the Xpro has quite managed to do this.

I think the guys at Fuji (Fuji Guys! :p ) need to calm down a little and stop over selling their product. In the long run it will be detrimental to their credibility IMO.

I'm not bagging the camera John but I do think they didn't quite 'kick a goal' with the Xpro in quite the same way they did with the X100.

That's fair. Part of the lesson then would be to reserve bestowing unrealistic expectations on a particular product before it's even released? If you tie up all your hopes and dreams into a device you're bound to be disappointed...but why blame the Fuji guys? They're just out to move units!

Well, I have to say that I appreciate your being willing to not let things escalate. I'm sorry if I was harsh before, but I hate posting on a thread only to have someone pick apart my post and focus on one phrase, out of context.

It's not like I'm running for president :p

One nice thing about money being tight. It makes one wait before buying new gear, thereby allowing one to get a better idea of the real world strengths and weakness of a product so one is better able to make an informed choice rather then buying out of excitement and hype.
Hopefully I'll find an Xpro 1 + 14mm and 35mm lens in my stocking on Christmas day :)

Obsolete? Really

Fuji seems to be a lot more concerned about existing camera owners than most of the competition.

The x100 had a couple of terrific firmware upgrades this year.

The Xpro-1 will have an upgrade that is expected to match all of the features in the xe-1 except hardware (evf resolution and built in diopter).

I'm not seeing that kind of help on a regular basis from anyone else...

Yep.. Can't agree more...

But did you get your use value out of it? That's the key. ;-}
Nobody knows if a finder works for them 'til they try it.

Agreed. I'm trying to be better at not doing that. :)

I see Keith, but don't you think that some of the disappointment was because it doesn't work as well with M lenses (third party lenses by the way) as other cameras? However, Fuji DID make an adapter, so hey do deserve some heat for this not working as well as expected. It's a really great camera though and as a owner of both the X100 and the X-Pro1, they are so similar I don't see how one could hate one and love the other.

Well, yeah, hype men are generally annoying.

I'm hoping the camera is fully relaized with the firmware update... we will see soon.
