Canon LTM seen 50/1.5 someone here buy it

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
Perhaps a stupid question but how does the new Carl Zeiss sonnar 1.5/50 compare to the older Sonnars (Canon, Nikon and Zeiss contax) Is the image comparable with the classics?

Thanks,
Roel

There have been several threads about the new ZM (& rarer S Mount, which is optically identical) Sonnar. Do a search (in Google, not the forum's own rickety search engine). E.g.,

Well, this might be a topic for a separate thread. The block diagram of the optical layout of the new lens is very similar to the old, but the entry aperture and and especially the exit aperture are larger on the new lens. The glass and coatings are about 50 years more modern than the Canon's.

IMO, images from the ZM Sonnar are sharper, with more contrast and color saturation. I don't shoot much in situations where flare is a problem, but expect that flare is better controlled in the newer lens. With the ZM lens, specular highlights in the OOF field are better defined - bokeh is different, but I don't consistently find it harsher or more distracting than with the older lenses.

But for all the differences, the ZM Sonnar has the same signature field aberration as the older lenses - sharp in the center and falling away unevenly to the edges as a damped sine wave. I have not directly compared the ZM Sonnar to the Canon 50/1.5 in the same setting (thinking I should do so) but I believe they will produce images more similar than different - which shows how good the Canon is.

Sold for 285 USD
I was not too far off from my "around" 250 USD prediction.
a desirable lens indeed.

No Sir!

It`s was done with Kodak CN400 finished in a unretouched "overlay" due to originally a dark scan.

Sadly :( I haven`t used any XP2 for many years, (I used to use it often in the early 1990`s back in Germnay) the XP2 has a differnet tone and feel than the Kodak film does, but I do "trick" out the CN400 to make the photos look vintagey or artistic and somewhat similar.
I take my C-41 b&w work more to a true grey tone or slightly purpleish, as the CN400 done normally comes out more sepia looking.

I haven`t shot with my Canon f1.5 for a month or two, so next roll of Kodak Gold 100 that`s already loaded in my 45' IIIC K/IIIFBD will be shared with a 1957 Nikkor HC f2.0 as well, so I can get a feel for what that new lens will do, which some of you might remember I found it sitting on that really kool "numbers matching" Tower 35, late last year.....so shooting with that lens is long overdue! :)

Tom

ah it sorta looked like xp2 and XTOL combo. CN400 would have been my second guess.

i never felt the need to have numerous 50mm lenses. sure i switch films a lot but i never saw the need to switch lenses (of same focal length) based on the setting.

$285 for an imperfect Canon 50/1.5 is not a good bargain in my opinion.
I will wait for a very clean example from someone here.

Something doesn't look right..

Isn't this the hazy lens we were talking about that just ended?

Gee, mine was $78.98 on eBay in 2005, before everyone talked it up so much. I had to clean something (fungus?) off the front of the rear cell.

WOW! I just reported this joker to ebay! I was bidding on the first one with a lowball, decided to look again for another and there it was, the same lens I just lost! Lost item as 360127990192. Compare the pics!

glad you also did, thieves should not prosper.

Seems they aren't moving too quickly on this one. Scammer now has 10 listings. These thieves may prosper.

So even though it was reported as a scam, EBAY let it go through to the end. Granted the $$$ turned out to be small, but for the money, the buyer ain't gonna see squat. But you can get ripped off anywhere. I got ripped here twice myself.
