My X100 was a nice toy, a diversion from real photography.
My Leicas are photographic instruments meant for a lifetime. they'll never be out of date, or superseded by a newer, better model. They just are.

Hi Adam,
I went through this recently myself, but it was whether to sell my Hasselblad for a smaller and more portable Leica M6 or not and decided in the end that I needed both - which I suspect would be the ideal situation for you. You will never recover the absolutly stunning image performance you are getting right now with your M6 - it may look good but never the same.
By the way, what 35 mm lens are you using? The f2.8 or f2?

At a portfolio critique – at a time when I was 100% M8 – Mary Ellen Mark said "Don't sell your film camera!" She repeated it over and over like a mantra. And sure enough, not directly because of her but just by inclination, i wandered back for two years into the retro-world of film. You never know when the urge will strike you.
Now I have film cameras, M9, and 100s as backup to the Leicas. It's just good enough so that if you boost the color a bit, you can make a 14x21" print that will slip into a portfolio of digital Leica images.

I can say that no digital camera will ever force me to sell my M6. I bought it new in 1986, it's never been serviced but it works as the day i took it out of the store.
Think you can have a digital camera that will do that?
It may not be important how long a digital camera will last but to sell an M6TTLto get a "Cheap" Digital camera is really short term GAS.
Just my 3 cents.

I would sell the 28mm AND definitely get a used x100 versus the x100s for three reasons, 1- with the last firmware update its equal to the x100s for the most part 2- IMO the sensor has a different feel than the x100s that is the closest OOC JPEG to film and if you shoot raw you will play with the image to PP it to B&W or color as you would in a dark room. 3-I looked at your work- you have a good eye despite no matter what you shoot with: film or digital- you'll enjoy the immediacy of digital/x100 and the x100 used will be equal to the sale of your lens thus no $$ out of pocket…. i wouldn't over think it- get it, shoot the 35mm FOV that you like(me too) and you'll be glad you did. good luck!

I would have never thought about selling my M6 but now I've fallen hard for my X100 and I'm not even that bothered about upgrading it. Will I sell my M6? You know what, probably I will.

I know the new 23/1.4 has a DOF scale, and so does the 14/2.8 if I'm not mistaken.
I'm making similiar decisions with my gear, since wal mart no longer cheaply developed C41 in house, I couldn't and can't afford to shoot c41.
I also develop my own b&w, which has thwarted those nasty thoughts of digitalis (for the most part)
Now that I have a big DSLR and pro zoom for color, I'm thinking of replacing it with either a x100 or xpro.
No pocket full of.clams here, the slow nature of reseilling gear is giving me plenty of time to hash it out.

Had the x100 and x100s and sold both. Kept my film Leicas. Impossible to substitute the rangefinder focussing of the Leica.
