I think you made the right decision by sending it in. How much did Schiller's Photo charge you for shipping it to Leica?
Interesting that Leica NJ is sending all the cameras to Leica in Germany. That must be part of the reason why it's taking so long for the work to be done.
Ellen: I don't know for sure about the shipping this time--I didn't ask. But in the past when Schiller's sent my cameras for repairs or checkup, the shipping cost was quite nominal.

Now this is interesting. So our M9 are sent to Wetzlar after all. With the new-new-sensor, and getting the M9 adjusted and calibrated, and getting new leather cover, it will be a wonderful "broken-in" but like new , and better, camera! All for no charge.
Raid: I don't know if I'm getting all that. It might depend on whether they decide the sensor needs replacement. If not, I imagine they might just do a sensor cleaning in NJ and send it back.

Rob: Yes, you are right about the sensor, but they usually also do a CLA and adjust the RF and replace the leather on the camera .

They replace the leatherette too? Wow, I didn't know that.
That's pretty awesome if they do.

They have to take off the covering to do the repair, so they have to replace it. It's not like they are replacing the covering out of the goodness of their heart.

Ah. Didn't realize that.

P,
I actually would of liked to have retained my old covering that was worn smooth in some areas from me holding the camera. Oh-well.

How did you 'log in' to get this info. I tried to figure it out but never got anywhere.
Was this Leica NJ?

I sent mine to Wetzlar. They gave me this link (along with my repair number) to monitor progress.

I tried my service order number in that tool and came up with nothing. I received that number from Leica NJ. My assumption is it only works for stuff sent to Wetzlar?

Yeah, I guess that's the case. I would've assumed Leica NJ has a similar tracking service.

As we approach August 15th;
Here's my story to this point, sent my M-E in early May. Had a evaluation within a two weeks. Sensor to be replaced, -$0- repair.
Mid May sent my Monocrom in. It took close to 8 weeks, and a couple of prodding e-mails to get the evaluation. The result another -$0- repair/sensor replacement.
I'd say things are quite backed up, and slowing down in NJ. With the deadline almost here it can't be getting better. I hope the needed resources are made available so things don't come to a total stop.
So, I will get two refurbished cameras in time, and I'm happy about that, but somewhat apprehensive about how long it will take.
You would think that Leica NJ would have a automated tracking service like Wetzer, but I've yet to find it. I anyone knows if there is one, and can share the info that would be great.

Joe,
Bill, the Service Manager, told me effectively you are almost getting a brand new camera back. I do not think this is too much of an exaggeration.
My Monochrom was heavily used for four years where it was my main camera, and other than the wear on the top and bottom plates the camera is as if new.
I was told 8-10 weeks wait, but it ended up being 12 weeks. It has been all good for me.

Few months ago, there was a thread about Leica NJ, mainly bashing Leica's customer service. I made a posting asking for Leica contact. Someone from Leica NJ responded a posted address, email, phone number, for contact. Even the procedure to send the M9. I cannot find the post. Can any of you, or the moderators point me to the right thread, please? Thanks, Pepe.

I would Google such information. This is what I have done. Call the phone number listed, and discuss your camera's issues or potential issues. Request a mailer. Maybe they will approve this. Pack up the camera very well, and mail it off. Make sure to record the serial number of your camera. Remove the battery. Document that you have included the camera cover and strap, say.

Thank you Raid.
Thank you Raid.
I googled is and here is the information. I do remember that last time I sent the camera, they told me to just send it, and they would contact me. The only problem is that I was in limbo for several weeks not knowing where my camera was. So, it is better to have sign receipt. Thanks, Pepe

I just overnighted my M9P to Leica NJ. Hope to get my baby back asap .. It feels strange without it. Now, I'm back to 100% film in the meantime. I'll post any updates on RFF for future reference. Anyone else sent in theirs recently before the free replacement program ends tomorrow?
